Lunar Escapades: Elise's Moon Adventures

"We found something!"

I sat up from my bed, startled by the announcement. I looked around the room and saw the sleeping bodies of my companions, the sun already shining through the windows. It was morning again, and a new day of work awaited us. My heart fluttered as I jumped out of bed and got dressed in my uniform, ready to get to work.

The light shined through the room's one window, illuminating all of us. The first light of day always made me feel nostalgic for home. I missed the feeling of looking up at the sky at night and seeing so many stars that it seemed like you could walk across them. Now we had just one moon, with hardly any stars in our sky. But every time I saw that first light shine through my window, I remembered what it was like to be outside at night in my village and see the lights from other villages twinkling in their windows. It was just one small thing that reminded me of home, but it kept me going on days when I felt alone.

"What is it?" I asked as I walked over to Dacia and Nala, who were now sitting together on a cot to get ready for work. They smiled when they saw me approaching and started putting on makeup before answering me.

"A big hole," Nala said as she applied a second coat of lipstick while Dacia fixed her hair in front of a mirror that had been propped up on a dresser against a wall. "I don't know how deep it goes down."

"Well did you go down into it?" I asked her excitedly as I changed into my work clothes and gloves while they finished getting ready. They both laughed at me as they continued putting on their makeup. Nala shook her head no while Dacia answered for her friend as she put on her lipstick.

"Nala doesn't do heights very well," Dacia explained for her friend as she made her lips redder than usual in an attempt to mimic Nala's lip color. Nala took another sip from her flask and gave Dacia a little smirk, making Dacia laugh louder than before. "She has trouble finding anything with no walls or ceilings." Nala gave Dacia an annoyed look that made both of them laugh harder than before, causing them to forget about applying their makeup correctly and causing some strange looks from some of the other girls as they passed by our room during their morning routine before heading outside to start their work day.

"Maybe we can go together?" I suggested hopefully to them after they stopped laughing and became more serious again at the thought of leaving our room early today to explore the hole in the ground instead of starting our normal routine right away, which would probably result in us missing something really important if we didn't get there right away because we couldn't find anything without walls or ceilings yet again anyway. We all looked at each other briefly before smiling broadly and getting up from our cots quickly so we wouldn't have to wait until later today or tomorrow after all if we wanted to see what was underground with this new discovery before anyone else did today.

As soon as we exited our room, there were so many people walking around everywhere that we couldn't see most things around us anymore because everyone was walking around everywhere too fast for us to keep track of where everything was going. We walked past dozens of rooms filled with people working hard on all kinds of things: fixing machines, building robots, printing clothing out of thin air, talking about space travel with each other or staring intently at screens where numbers flew by too fast for most people living here today to even understand anymore anyway because nobody had ever bothered teaching anyone anything anymore since everybody was always too busy doing whatever they were doing now instead of playing catch-up like they should've been doing yesterday instead of what they should be doing tomorrow if they want to keep surviving here at all anyway but nobody ever seems to care enough about doing anything but their own job anyway because they never seem to stop long enough to realize how important it is that they keep doing those jobs right now even though everybody keeps forgetting how important those jobs are anyway because nobody wants anyone else to do anything useful around here anymore except themselves because everybody just wants somebody else doing everything for them so nobody has time for anything else anymore even though keeping everyone alive is supposed to be everyone's job here but nobody cares about doing that anymore either so maybe everyone will die someday after all after falling asleep standing up standing still standing up standing still standing up standing still standing up standing still...

But then suddenly everyone seemed to forget why they were moving around at such a breakneck pace anyway when someone shouted outside that there was something special waiting for us in front of the main building where everybody went every day for breakfast even though nobody eats breakfast anymore because everybody seems too busy trying not to starve or die anymore instead even though we're supposed to be figuring out how not dying here is supposed to be possible someday because nobody seems willing to help anybody else live nor die more easily anymore instead everybody just wants somebody else doing everything for them so nobody has time for anything else anymore even though keeping everyone alive is supposed to be everyone's job here but nobody cares about doing that anymore either so maybe everyone will die someday after all after falling asleep standing up standing still standing up standing still standing up standing still...

We finally reached the front door where everyone gathered every morning when suddenly someone shouted out loudly above all the noise that whoever found something exciting needed everyone's attention right away! Everyone stopped walking abruptly when he shouted this loudly loud loudly loudly loud loud loud loud loud loud LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY LOUDLY loudly loudly loudly loudly loudly loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly Loudly loudly loudly loudly loudly everywhere! Then suddenly Nala screamed out loud "I found something amazing!" And then... Well... Everything stopped being boring again almost immediately after she said this! She pointed towards some trees near where everybody had gathered around her excitedly waiting for her news: "There's an entrance hiding under these trees!"
