Feryn's Worldly Pursuit

"Well, that was fun."

"I'll say. I've never been shot at before," said Mark.

"Yeah, that was kinda scary."

The two lay on the ground in the shade of the boulders. In the distance, the three men were getting into a pick-up truck and driving off. The two were on a hiking trip in the mountains of Colorado when they got lost in a thunderstorm. They had stumbled upon some guy's drug stash and he didn't appreciate it.

"You know, we probably should have stayed put and waited for them to leave," said Mark.

"It was raining. We had no idea how long that would take. Besides, they were so far away from us, we wouldn't have been able to hear anything they said."

A couple of minutes later, the guys heard another engine approaching along the narrow dirt road. A second pick-up truck stopped near where the first one had left. One of the guys jumped out and approached them with a handgun drawn.

"On your knees," he said, pointing his gun at them as he approached.

Mark knelt down but Feryn stood up and yelled "Fuck you!" at him. She lunged at him but slipped on some mud on the ground and fell backwards head over heels into a puddle of muddy water. Mark pulled her up by her shirt sleeve and helped her back to her feet.

Feryn looked at the guy holding the gun on them and saw that he was about to start laughing. He managed to stifle himself for a second or two but then burst out laughing uncontrollably. After a minute or so, he regained his composure just in time to be hit in the face with a rock thrown by someone standing behind him. The guy holding his face started cursing wildly while his buddy turned around and raised his gun but thought better of it when he saw four guys approaching them with baseball bats and crowbars ready to swing if necessary. The three men raised their hands in a gesture of surrender and slowly backed away towards their trucks while keeping an eye on their assailants who approached them menacingly while taunting them all along with choice expletives peppered liberally throughout their tirade of insults and threats of violence. The three finally reached their trucks after which they drove off as quickly as they could without running anyone over during their high speed getaway from this most recent encounter with these vigilante strangers who were determined not to let them get away unscathed from this latest illegal activity for which they must be made to pay dearly for their crimes against humanity which is definitely not acceptable under any circumstances whatsoever even if those circumstances are themselves unacceptable because what kind of world would we live in if we let people get away with their crimes?
