Nyanners and the Bottomless Magic

The tiny town of Regentale sat nestled in the thick forests of the Northern Kingdom. It was a quiet place, far from the bustling cities of Castle Town and King's Fall. The town had no name, nor did it have a king or queen to oversee its people. A remnant from a long forgotten age, Regentale had been abandoned by all but the most resilient of explorers.

On a particularly chilly night one young woman stumbled upon the small town. Wrapped up tightly in her green cloak, Nyanners made her way down the dirt road leading into Regentale. She was looking for answers, she was looking for adventure, she was looking for a party. And yet as she neared the small village she began to doubt if any of those things would be found here. The town seemed sleepy and empty and Nyanners thought that perhaps she should turn back. But then she heard laughter and music, faint but distinct. And so Nyanners pushed on towards the sound of merriment. She walked through the village square and saw an old man tending to his garden before he looked over and spoke with her in a kind voice, "Welcome stranger."

Nyanners smiled, "Hi there,"

"You must be cold," said the old man as he opened up his door and motioned for Nyanners to enter his home, "I'd offer you some hot tea but I'm all out."

Nyanners laughed and followed him inside, "That's alright,"

The two sat down at his kitchen table, "So what brings you to our humble little town?" he asked her curiously.

Nyanners smiled broadly at him before replying, "Well I've been travelling for quite some time now; ever since I left my hometown oh so many moons ago."

"Oh have you now? Where is it that you hail from?"

"I'm not entirely sure where I am exactly anymore," said Nyanners as she shrugged her shoulders before smiling once more at him, "But don't worry about that, what's your name?"

The old man smiled at her warmly before replying, "My name is Coran." And from that day on Nyanners spent most of her time with Coran enjoying his company in his small home. He seemed like a nice enough fellow, though something about him always unsettled her slightly. Perhaps it was simply how long he had lived alone or perhaps it was how reclusive he was about himself but whatever it was Nyanners felt drawn to him all the same. And after spending so much time with him Nyanners learnt much about Regentale and its inhabitants; from its history to its culture and even its politics amongst its leaders. She learnt that they were few in numbers but strong in spirit. And while their life in Regentale wasn't perfect they still made do and enjoyed their lives with one another despite their misfortune. Often Nyanners would sit with Coran and listen to his tales of his youth before Regentale was deserted by its people and they sat together listening to each other's stories until late into the night when they would retire to their separate homes within town.

One night after returning home Nyanners sat on her bed staring off into space thinking about Coran when suddenly she heard music outside! The young girl jumped up from her bed eager to investigate the sound only to find herself standing alone in front of Coran's home which sat between two others on the main street through town where everyone else lay sleeping unaware of all the commotion happening just outside their doorsteps!

Confused, Nyanners peeked through Coran's window and saw a large crowd gathered around his home talking excitedly amongst each other as they awaited something or someone within his house! Curious herself Nyanners slowly cracked open the door leading inside where she saw Coran sitting patiently on his chair taking in deep breaths as if he were preparing himself for something out of this world! As soon as he spotted Nyanners he smiled widely at her before indicating silently towards the door asking if she wanted to join them! Hesitantly Nyanners stepped inside only to be confronted by dozens staring back at her with wide eyes as if they were seeing an angel sent down straight from heaven itself! As soon as everyone got a good look at Nyanners they broke out into thunderous applause filling the air with deafening noise before falling silent once more though this time there was laughter too! They were laughing at her! Embarrassed by their stares Nyanners turned away from them only for them to laugh even louder causing Coran himself burst into laughter too! Everyone joined in except for one person who simply glared disapprovingly at them all! That person turned out to be a young boy who appeared angry that they were not behaving themselves properly especially given their circumstances! It seems that while most people were happy to see Nyanners they were equally unhappy with their current predicament! For while they enjoyed each others' company
