The late summer sunlight danced upon the rolling fields of rural North Carolina and it was enough to captivate Cash Monroe and Kersey OConnor. They had grown up with such stunning beauty in their lives, never expecting it to be challenged. Little did they know, they were both captivated by a curious figure—the same cow.

From the beginning, Cash and Kersey had kept their relationship friendly and casual. But after developing a bit of an English-country rivalry, their competitive spirits soon became an undeniable chemistry. This often led to fits of laughter and for the first time, the two of them allowed their feelings for each other to grow.

Cash was a progressive thinker, occasionally pushing the social boundaries of their conservative farming community. He intended to ensure the farming of the growing animal populations had a moral and ethical standard, yet using an intense snark as to prevent himself from feeling too vulnerable.

Kersey, on the other hand, was a deeply caring person tended to forgo her personal wants for the collective good. she had strong convictions and loved Cash’s quirky charm—but more importantly, she understood the vernacular that surrounded Cash’s beliefs.

At first, their interest in the same cow posed a friendly challenge and the two often replaced manipulatingCash’s definition of ethical farming to include the particular animal. But soon, jokes of ownership and acts of affection quickly ripened. Neither realized how fond they had become of the pleasant bovine until one fateful morning.

Cash had gone into town and rented a stiff wagon that could carry it. However, what seemed to be a clever plan quickly became blessed with a lot of passionate kissing in the open field. Both Cash and Kersey knew the folly of their act, for if anyone discovered their bond it would quite literally cow-doom both of their lives.

The threat of discovery was ever present, thus the two had no patience for anyone who doubted the love that had been sparked between them. As news of a mysterious wagon filled with an unknown passenger spread throughout the town like fire, Cash and Kersey decided if their relationship was going to survive, it had to come with a great sacrifice.

On the day of the town’s major fair, with tears, laughter, and the occasional coy insult, Cash and Kersey declared their undying love for each other, hugged the cow good-bye, and made a joint-decision to flee.

In the Final they were off, two outlaws, head first into the unknown. Nothing could keep them back and the worry, delight, and anticipation coursed through their veins as they galloped away.

However, their retreat had stirred the town’s collective and stirred disappointment. Faced with an onslaught of angry words and demands to be caught—some in the heat of intoxication and moral outrage—the two were brought beneath the attentions of local constables who wanted to apprehend them.

With no one provided a bail, Cash and Kersey were forcefully taken back to the town and pleaded guilty to a trumped up charge of harboring devious relations—unaware of what the future may hold for them.

In the Mid-Point, Knowing that this could be the last time they could be together, the two had no alternative but to drive the verdict and march onward hand-in-hand, shoulders squared. The townspeople eyed the betrayed cow and Cash, and the two of them could almost feel the weight of the verbal accusations thrown around them.

All of a sudden, however, a voice began to preach from the opposite end of the street and made some sense of the situation. A man must have been sent from heaven itself as he boldly defended them, demanding respect for both the loved and love-struck. This sharp revelation shook the town of its confines and reached the ears of the local justices.

The sudden nature of the situation cascaded in a joke of pandemonium with the trial now seemingly on their hands. For the first time, proper regulations and documents mingled with romance, hoping to form resolutions that would protect their acts from scrutiny and condemnations.

After a long and dragging hour the court accepted their plea, not just in liberty but in joy. An article written and signed by them both vowed to establish a lifestyle of innocence and contentment while they respected the fondness, care and attention of the cows.

The Townspeople, initially in shock, were overcome with merriment as the sweet couple separated with a peck on the cheek and a bon voyage kiss. The final had come and the couple willingly embarked upon their new journey, make the high society of America’s destiny.

It was back in the village. With orangish-tinted skies came solace and a fresh day for Cash and Kersey. A day to remember their love and its immeasurable worth, even as the cow watched them fade away. While its newfound companions called out with nothing but joy, neither aware that its life was not before them, but by their side.
