Astral Travels of a Sorceress
·
Published 1/14/2023When Emma, a college student in Europe, suddenly begins astral projecting into another world to discover she's a powerful sorceress with a destiny to prevent disaster, she embarks on a thrilling and dangerous mission with her mentor, a wise goddess, to save two worlds from a devastating fate.
The room, with its opulent crimson draperies, was filled with cigarette smoke, the ash at the ends still glowing. Sitting around the small table were five men.
They all were smoking, a strange thing to do in such a place given that the fabric of the curtains and rug were more flammable than kindling. But that was their place after all wasn't it? To do what was forbidden. They were the brothers of shadow no folk ever spoke of, no stranger opened their door to. Yes we are darkness. We are filth the world would be better off without.
The only ones who would meet our eyes would be those whose money could help us and those whom we had bought or bribed already.
"So?" The man across from me spoke up as I finished talking. "You're sure about this?" Five sets of pale eyes stared at me. "We've tested you. You're strong enough." One translated to me. He told me earlier the language barrier was something they did purposefully so they would be able to hold intense conversations with clients that wouldn't be privy to them. My current situation though... I had brought it upon myself.
"I'm sure. I understand what I'm getting into."
"You're not frightened?" A set of bright aqua eyes bore into mine. His words were his hints. I didn't need to get much more than that I remind myself. I answered no. I wasn't afraid. One of them rang a bell. A boy entered shortly thereafter; he couldn't be older than seventeen. He seemed anxious.
"How many?" One of them questioned the boy harshly. He shook his head and handed the man several pages on a tray. The man read two pieces before passing them quickly with his hand for the rest of his brethren. After a moment of silence where I presumed they all read it (It was longer than it should have been) they nodded at one another.
"He'll see to your wishes Kaati." He said gloomily. His words echoed doubtily through my soul.
**They said I was special almost a decade ago hadn't they? Even back them they knew. Why hadn't they said anything to me?**
"What's on those pages?" For they didn't know I can read the language. They believed I couldn't just like everyone else.
"We'll tell when we see you again.. Honestly it's best if we prepare everything ahead of time... Now go." I left. Fear, creeping darkness, followed after me. It was coming for my mates, my family. It sought to claim them. But I would protect them as much as I could, who I am ah???
The boys name was Daxter. He would wait for two years for her return to him. When she did he found she'd opened the Pandora realms and found her way out, hailing a cab that would take her to the nearest bus station from whence he was sure the magic she'd cast while under the mentor's watchful eye manifested itself at the night's brink. She was unlike any other he'd ever seen, but he'd crossed paths with people remarkably similar often, people oblivious to the very magic surrounding them, people especially aware of the magic thinking wrongly it had nothing beneath it. People naive to their power and privilege endlessly ignorant of what it entailed, how wonderfully amazingly fucking scary it was and how easily one could lose it. Or how easily it could be lifted. He had only realized what happened in the document before hands reaching out to him from beyond the grave as it were, when another came to snatch it from him, see what it meant, what id did. The pain and disorder flowing into him, spilling out forced its will upon others filling their hearts with terror of those who didn't do what was right, those who found fault even when none existed. In the past it had split and few averted the calamity. But now it knew it's true potential emboldened rising like a phoenix with a new name.
