The Roshi and Bulma's Moon Journey
·
Published 5/31/2023In 14th century Japan, a wise roshi and his eager companion Bulma take a treacherous journey to the Moon, raising provocative questions as they struggle to find comfort and comfort in each other as they confront their inner feelings and a forbidding landscape.

The two of us were together for nearly fifteen years. The first ten were good, the last five were not so good. She was my master, the one who opened my third eye. I was her loyal student, trying to learn all I could from her to be great just like her.
Those were the best days of my life. We would sit on that pond every morning and meditate side by side. Her feet would touch mine and we would stare at the fish swimming around us for hours on end. It didn't matter if it rained or snowed or got too hot outside, we would still be there with each other on our little island in the middle of the pond.
She taught me so much during that time. She showed me how to let go of my earthly desires and also how to love myself again after what happened all those years ago. Without her guidance, I probably wouldn't have been able to heal as quickly as I did.
I owe everything to Master Bulma, but now she's gone. She disappeared three months ago, leaving me alone and confused on our little island in the middle of the pond. I can't sleep without her by my side and I haven't eaten anything since she left either. My body is getting weaker each day and I'm afraid that soon I will die alone in this place where we used to spend so much time together.
So today I decided to take a chance and go looking for Bulma all by myself. I don't know where she went and why she took off in such a hurry like that, but at least now I'll be able to see her again even if it's just for a moment before she leaves again forever. So here I am walking down the road trying to find some type of transportation that can take me wherever it is Master Bulma might be right now.
As fate would have it, everything seems to be going well so far. After walking for another hour or so on the dusty dirt road, I spot a white car parked over in a field next to an old abandoned gas station somewhere between here and nowhere special really. Right away I start running toward the car hoping that maybe whoever owns it might be able to give me a ride somewhere useful instead of just standing out here in this field all by myself breathing in air that smells like death and loneliness.
Just as I'm getting close enough to see inside of the car through its tinted windows, some guy pulls up next to it driving an orange truck with a matching orange trailer behind it carrying a bunch of supplies in it including watermelons, mangos and apples which happen to be some of Master Bulma's favorite foods so naturally this makes me pretty happy right away because maybe now she'll remember those melon flavored kisses we used to share back when we were together sitting on our island in the middle of that pond all those years ago while we watched those beautiful fish swim around us and talk about how they feel about all sorts of stuff like politics or philosophy or whatever else might be interesting them at the moment which is interesting me even more than any boring political debate ever could because who cares about stupid things like politics when you can just talk about whatever you think might be interesting you instead which is why politics sucks compared with philosophy because politics isn't interesting but philosophy is interesting because -
