Lena's Quest for Speed

She had to admit, he was a charismatic leader. The crowd around her was cheering loudly and going wild as they were addressing their leader. He stepped out of the big red car, and the roar the crowd made was deafening.

"We are going to win this year's race," he said, louder than necessary for the mic to pick it up. "And I can personally guarantee you one thing: we will never ever lose."

The crowd went wild again. Lena smiled as she watched from behind a pillar. She agreed with him; everyone there knew of his passion for winning, but that was not what she liked about him. His passion for building things had set him apart from everyone else. His creations were always well-designed and had been used by almost everyone in the city. The airships that floated across the sky above them were all invented by him, along with the engines that powered them. And of course, the cars that he brought to life every year during the annual rally race were something to behold. They were fast, sleek, and beautiful machines that could take any turn on the track without losing control or skidding out of control; they could also hit top speeds faster than most people could imagine in their wildest dreams.

His name was Marcus Stolborn, and he was currently standing on top of his creation - his pride and joy - and looking down at his people with a self-satisfied smirk on his face. Lena sighed inwardly as she looked down at her feet; she couldn't help but feel a little disappointed at how far off her own creation had been from what Marcus had created back then.

It had been years since she'd last seen him, and she couldn't help but feel like she had missed out on so much back then when she'd left his company to pursue her own interests. He hadn't changed much physically; still the same dark hair, eyes, and skin color; still those same chiseled facial features that made him look handsome even with a smirk plastered on his face; still those same broad shoulders that screamed strength... But in many ways, he was very different from who he was back then when they were together in college together.

Lena shook her head as she tried to clear away those thoughts from her mind; after all, he was currently surrounded by adoring fans who would probably kill anyone who dared question Marcus' judgment or intentions. It wasn't easy being someone's right-hand man when they ruled over a city with an iron fist (or should she say 'spiked iron knuckles?'), after all...

She sighed again before turning away from the scene below her and started walking away from where she stood to assess the work done so far on Marcus' latest creation: The Red Lightning 2.0 (as if there had been another version before). She found herself walking past tables littered with parts of a car engine laying scattered across every available surface; it amazed her just how much detail Marcus' crew put into making sure his design would function properly when finished.

Her steps led her past more tables before stopping abruptly in front of one table containing a pile of wires and circuits lying on top of each other haphazardly with no real rhyme or reason to their arrangement on the table itself; there were simply too many components arranged too closely together while others were spaced too far apart from each other... This is what *she* had managed to put together so far!

Lena felt like giving up right there and then; everything had seemed so perfect back then when she first pitched her idea for reconditioning an old car engine using modern technology but... The reality of working under such cramped conditions coupled with Marcus' constant nagging about racing every day really started getting to her after some time... What happened to spending days upon days designing an engine based entirely on your creativity? What happened to designing an engine that could be operated by someone without even having proper mechanical knowledge? What happened to designing a engine where you could have fun while you worked? Instead what has happened is that they had started working under intense deadlines due to Marcus' insistence on getting things done quickly while repeatedly reminding everyone involved that this was supposed to be a simple task involving nothing more than just taking an old car engine apart and putting it together again!

Her footsteps diverted away from the table as she continued her walk through the room filled with tables full of parts where many people were hard at work trying their best to get everything fixed up before Marcus decided to show up again next week (as if he wasn't around every day already...) Her eyes continued looking around until they fell upon another person currently busy doing what looked like a dissection job on some kind of engine block filled with coils and wires... Perhaps this guy knew something about engines? Lena decided to approach him anyway despite having no idea who he actually was; after all, wasn't this whole thing supposed to be team work? Shouldn't everyone know everyone
