"I'm telling you, man... I can't fucking stand her."

"Come on, it's just a little bit of humble pie now and then that isn't going to kill you, amigo. It's not like she's asking for anything crazy."

"Yeah, but it's the principle of the thing." Marcus sighed and downed the last of his beer before setting the empty glass on the table. "The woman is an absolute bitch!"

"Just ignore her then," the young man said with a shrug. "You don't have to answer her calls or texts if you don't want to."

"That's easy for you to say. You're not seeing someone who is a walking embodiment of pure evil. Hecate herself could be posing as my significant other at this point." Marcus refilled his glass from a pitcher on the table, clinked his glass against his companion's and took a deep drink.

"Of course it would be easier if I didn't have to deal with her until we were in public but unfortunately I don't really have a choice in the matter. She's pretty much all over me 24/7." The older man sighed and reached up to run both hands through his greying hair. "She wants me to move out of my place and into hers because apparently she doesn't want me spending money on rent when she could easily provide for us... which is ridiculous considering how much money she already has." He took another drink from his beer glass and stared across the table at his friend. "Not that I've ever asked but I'm pretty sure that if I had asked she would have told me anyway. Like I said, one of Satan's minions incarnate as a woman." He shook his head slowly as he remembered some of their conversations in recent weeks.

"Well what do you expect? It's not like you've been putting out." The younger man leaned back in his chair with a smile and crossed one leg over the other. He had long black hair tied back in a ponytail and wore thick-rimmed glasses over dark brown eyes. While he looked quite normal sitting there, he was actually something quite different - though no one would know it due to his excellent control over his abilities. In reality, he was an angel who had been sent down to Earth by God himself to oversee the birth of humanity. He was very good at what he did but unfortunately he had gotten himself involved with someone who was even better than him at what she did - Marcus' 'significant other.'

It had all started a few years earlier when they had met while they were working together on an important project involving another angel named Michael who had been exiled from Heaven along with Gabriel and Raphael for reasons unknown by anyone but God himself; even then, not everyone knew why they had been exiled despite being close friends with Him. In any case, they had bonded quickly over their mutual dislike of Michael and their joint dislike of Michael's brother Uriel, who lived in Heaven and ruled over both realms with an iron fist.

The two women took an interest in one another almost immediately, despite how much they hated each other, but their relationship changed when Uriel decided that mankind was ready for free will after all. Free will was restored upon Earth, and as it happened, Michael fell for a human woman named Mary Magdalene, while Raphael ended up becoming romantically involved with Elijah Mertz, aka Marcus Mertz, who now sat across from him glaring at him angrily while continuing to drink from his nearly empty beer glass.

"So what are you going to do?" The younger angel said when it became obvious that Marcus wasn't going to say anything else further on this particular subject so instead, he moved on to something else that he knew would get him talking again sooner or later - namely the politics in Mirdavia versus politics in Pogonith where both nations were currently engaged in an ongoing war with each other that nobody seemed able to figure out how or why it had started in the first place; at this point, nobody even knew why it was still going on since neither side seemed to be gaining any ground while at the same time they also seemed unwilling or unable to back down. "What do you mean?" Marcus finally said after several moments of silence - though several moments were probably longer than several moments actually were given how long angels could spend thinking about something before speaking again.

"Well, you can't keep avoiding the issue, my friend," the younger angel replied with a knowing smile. "You have to confront her, set boundaries, and communicate your feelings. It's the only way to resolve this."

Marcus scoffed, his frustration evident in his tired eyes. "Communication? Ha! That's easier said than done. Every time I try to discuss anything remotely serious, she shuts me down with her manipulation and condescension. I swear, she's like a master puppeteer, pulling all the strings."

The younger angel's smile faded slightly, replaced with a thoughtful expression. "Have you considered seeking help? Maybe couples therapy could provide a neutral space for both of you to express yourselves and work through your issues."

Marcus rolled his eyes. "Are you serious? Therapy? That's just admitting defeat. Besides, I highly doubt she'd be open to that idea. She's too proud to even entertain the possibility that she's the problem."

"But how much longer can you tolerate this toxic dynamic?" the younger angel pressed gently. "You deserve happiness, Marcus. And if she truly cares about you, she should be willing to make some compromises too."

Marcus sighed, his shoulders slumping. "I don't know anymore, man. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth it. If this is what love is supposed to feel like, then count me out."

The younger angel reached across the table and placed a comforting hand on Marcus's arm. "Love isn't supposed to be suffocating or demeaning, my friend. It's meant to uplift and support. Don't settle for anything less."

Marcus stared at his friend, his gaze filled with a mix of exhaustion and longing. "You're right. I deserve better. I need to stand up for myself and reclaim my happiness."

The two men sat in silence, the weight of the conversation enveloping them. The younger angel knew that Marcus had to find the strength within himself to confront his partner and demand the respect he deserved. It would be a difficult journey, but he had faith in Marcus's resilience.

As their glasses sat abandoned on the table, the clinking sound of an incoming call shattered the stillness. Marcus's eyes narrowed at the screen displaying his partner's name. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the conversation that would shape the future of their relationship.

With determination etching lines on his face, Marcus pressed the answer button and held the phone to his ear. The voice on the other end filled the air, dripping with sweet poison. But this time, Marcus was ready. He listened, taking in every word, and then, finally, he found his voice.

"No, it's not ridiculous," Marcus began, his voice steady and assertive. "I won't move in with you just because you think it's best. I have my own desires and dreams, and they matter too. And if you can't respect that, then maybe we need to reconsider this relationship."

As Marcus spoke, a sense of empowerment surged within him, washing away the residue of self-doubt. The younger angel, still seated across from him, couldn't help but smile with pride. This was the first step towards the healing that Marcus desperately needed.

The conversation continued, filled with tense silence and heated arguments. But Marcus held his ground, refusing to be manipulated or silenced. In that moment, he found the strength to prioritize his own well-being, even if it meant walking away from a toxic relationship.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Marcus embraced his newfound independence, channeling his energy into self-improvement and pursuing his own passions. His transformation began to radiate from within, drawing like-minded people towards him.

One evening, as Marcus sat in a café working on a new project, a familiar face caught his eye. It was the younger angel, his friend and confidante, gracefully approaching the table with a warm smile.

"I knew I'd find you here," the angel said, sliding into the seat opposite Marcus. "How are you doing?"

Marcus's answer was a genuine smile, free of the burdens that had once weighed him down. "I'm doing great, actually. Life has taken an unexpected turn, but it's definitely for the better. I've learned so much about myself in these past few months."

The younger angel nodded approvingly. "You've come a long way, my friend. It takes courage to break free from toxic patterns and prioritize your own happiness."

Marcus leaned back in his chair, savoring the contentment that filled his heart. "You were right all along. Love should never require one person to sacrifice their well-being for the other. It should be a partnership, an equal balance of give and take."

The younger angel raised his glass, toasting to Marcus's newfound wisdom. "Here's to finding love that brings out the best in us, and to friendships that help us find our way."

As their glasses clinked together, Marcus couldn't help but feel grateful for the support and guidance he had received. It had been a long and challenging journey, but he finally stood on the other side, ready to embrace the future with open arms. And deep down, he knew that the younger angel would forever be a part of his story, an unwavering beacon of light in the darkness.
