Cooper's Cosmos: Racing for a hopeful Haven.
·
Published 3/28/2023With a broken heart and against the clock, Cooper, an ace pilot, leads a courageous team of researchers into far-away galaxies on a desperate mission to save humanity -- daring life-or-death adventures, cross-species alliances and heartache lurk around every corner as they search for a new home.
"Cooper, are you ready to go?"
"All set. Are the others ready?"
"Yes, they're all strapped in."
"Ok. Let's do this."
Professor Brand pressed the button on his console, and the atmosphere changed from a dull grey to a brilliant white. The gravity ceased as the ship broke through the atmosphere, and the ship was catapulted into space at a speed of .3c- well over half the speed of light.
The journey was far more dangerous than any had expected, and after what felt like an eternity they finally reached their destination- a blue-green planet with large landmasses jutting out of its oceans.
"We made it!" Alyssa shouted. "Everyone ok? We lost some instruments but nothing too serious."
Professor Brand looked up from his screen. "I'm fine, but we lost some communication equipment," he said. "It looks like everything else is working fine."
Alyssa stared out the window of the ship at the beautiful planet before her. It seemed so calm, almost meditative in nature; she could feel it seeping into her soul. "I wonder what it's like down there," she thought. She looked over at Cooper and smiled- he smiled back and gave a small nod towards the planet.
Professor Brand walked up to them. "Well done, both of you," he said with a smile. "You put up with my ridiculous requests for two years for this moment... I can't thank you enough for your service." He glanced down at his feet and sighed, then walked away towards his office. He sat in his chair and slowly closed his eyes, thinking about all that had happened over those last two years: he remembered all the friends who had lost their lives in pursuit of their mission- most notably Jim Waterson, who had been one of their brightest minds during construction of Endurance; he remembered how they had barely made it out of Earth's orbit before nuclear missiles fired by superpowers around the world destroyed all life on Earth; he remembered how they had barely escaped an alien attack while looking for planets near Alpha Centauri... He recalled many moments of hardship and desperation that they had endured together, but now that they had arrived at their new home there would be no need for such despair or struggle ever again... All because of those four brave souls who would never return to Earth again; all because of Cooper, Alyssa, Matt, and himself... And as tears filled his eyes he thought about how happy he was to have met them all; how wonderful it felt to have been able to have shared those experiences with them... He knew that they would never forget him and each other when they landed on this new planet- they would remember Earth even if they knew nothing else about it... They had found their Promised Land...
