The sun rose over the bustling city of Shanghai, as it always did, but this morning was special. The air was especially crisp, and the cool breeze carried with it a faint scent of jasmine flowers. It was almost as if all of Shanghai had caught wind of today's festivities. A festival was being held to commemorate the new year, and the streets were already full of people enjoying the festivities. It was a time for happiness, a time for hope. This was going to be a wonderful year for everyone!

Everyone except for Qin Jia, at least. She had just lost her job to that annoying little girl, Wazhou. Her entire family depended on that job and now she'd have no choice but to tell them that they would have to move back in with her mother in her hometown. She didn't want to do that. The thought made her stomach turn in knots. What would they think? Her mother hadn't wanted her to move out in the first place, and now she'd have to admit that she wasn't able to make ends meet on her own. It made her sick thinking about it. And Wazhou wasn't even listening when she fired her! That little girl had stolen her job right in front of her face and there wasn't anything she could do about it!

She stared out the window at all the happy people walking around outside and felt tears well up in her eyes again. She couldn't let them see her crying like this; she had to be strong for her family's sake, but honestly how much more could one person take? How many times would life punch you in the gut until you just gave up trying?

Suddenly a voice behind her spoke up: "You know... I bet if you swallowed me whole you'd feel better." Qin turned around slowly, wiping away tears from her eyes. There stood Wazhou, looking not only unscathed by all the trouble she caused Qin but also quite upbeat about it as well. Maybe she's as crazy as me, thought Qin sadly.

"Wazhou," she said quietly with a sigh, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Sure you do!" Wazhou declared confidently and started bouncing back and forth on tip toes excitedly like an excited little girl who couldn't keep still from her anticipation. "You lost your job because I stole it from you! If you swallow me then everything will go back to normal!" she exclaimed with a smile and suddenly started jumping into the air and shouting "I promise! You'll feel better after I'm gone!"

Qin stared at Wazhou incredulously as if she didn't understand what Wazhou was saying or where this sudden burst of energy came from. Wazhou noticed this look on Qin's face and paused mid-jump to say: "Oh right... I forgot that not everyone knows what vore is." She jumped off the ground and landed neatly on top of Qin's head before continuing: "Vore means 'to eat' - when someone wants to consume something, usually food – but in this case, it refers to consuming someone whole."

"But... how did you survive?" asked Qin in utter disbelief. "Why isn't there any hole in my stomach?"

"Well that's because I'm not really a human," answered Wazhou casually while hopping down off of Qin's head into her hands which were resting on top of her shoulders nonchalantly as if this sort of thing happened every day. "I'm actually a qilin disguised as a human." When Qin continued staring at Wazhou dumbstruck, seemingly unable to process this information properly, Wazhou continued: "So anyway my plan worked! So now can we go home? Because I'm hungry!"

As soon as this last sentence left Wazhou's lips, she opened her mouth wide with a massive yawn, which briefly exposed rows upon rows of razor-sharp teeth as well as two long horns protruding from either side of her head. The horns glowed with a red hue, blending in seamlessly with the daylight to avoid drawing attention. It was no wonder that people had a natural fear of looking directly into each other's eyes – it was a defense mechanism to avoid being eaten by mistake, much like how humans are often fearful when looking at a snake's eyes. This ancient instinct remains pertinent even though snakes do not pose a genuine threat to humans anymore, as they have learned that consuming people is not beneficial due to pollution and the lack of essential nutrients in our diets. Remember, kids: Eat your vegetables to maintain a healthy immune system!
