There were two types of people trying to eat at this ungodly hour. The first were the ones who were pulling in their morning shifts or those who had just gotten off their night shifts. They were exhausted, hungry, and didn’t want to be bothered by anyone, no exceptions.

The second type was a small minority that came from a place where they didn’t have to worry about the morning commute; they had other things to be concerned with. The ones who may have been having a business meeting that lasted well into the early morning hours, or worse: the ones whose business never ended.

One of these latter types sat across from me, staring intently at a plate of eggs and bacon that I’m sure he would rather have been eating back home in his bed.

I sipped on my coffee and wondered how long it would take him to loosen up. He had already finished his breakfast and yet he looked more like a kid waiting for Santa than a man sitting down for a meal. No doubt he was thinking about how many ways I could kill him here without drawing any undue attention to myself.

He didn’t need to worry about that-the cops weren’t going to bust in through the front door and arrest us before we had even touched our forks. That kind of shit only happened on TV. I knew though, the way he kept looking over my shoulder that he wasn’t convinced. Eventually he looked back down at his half-eaten meal before finally taking a sip of his cup of tea.

“You gonna eat? Or are you just gonna stare at me all day?” I asked and took another drink of my own coffee, which was now cold and ruined but either way I didn’t care. “I gotta be somewhere in an hour and if you don’t fuckin eat soon I ain't gonna wait around while you pretend you got manners or some shit.”

After hearing that, Tony Soprano looked up again as though I had threatened his life instead of just ruining his breakfast. His eyes went wide when he realized what I had said and quickly returned his gaze back to his food before asking, “Who are you? How do you know my name?”

I sighed heavily and shook my head slowly as I replied, “If I wanted you dead you would be dead by now so there's no point in playing dumb with me, Tony Soprano. You're not that good at lying and anyways your mother could've taught a class on it while she was alive so don't waste your time trying to put on airs with me because we both know it won't work. She was right, too-you are just like your father only slightly less soft in the head than him but still pretty fuckin stupid when all is said and done because if you think for one second that most people see you as anything more than just another thug then you are sorely mistaken... Now eat! Or else don't eat but shut the fuck up because either way I'm leaving soon whether you're done with your food or not."

Tony stared at me for a moment before looking away again as though he couldn't maintain eye contact for longer than a few seconds without feeling like someone was sticking burning hot pokers into his eyes. He picked up his fork again then set it back down before picking up his knife instead, clearly unsure with how exactly he should go about cutting into his eggs while keeping them intact enough to actually eat them properly. After staring helplessly at his breakfast for another few seconds he gave up on the thought entirely and began picking chunks out of the yolk with his fingers until eventually all that was left was an empty plate full of crumbs meant for some other type of bird besides him apparently because what little appetite he had seemed to be gone now anyway.

I watched with mild amusement as Tony pushed his plate away, a defeated look on his face. His shoulders slumped, and for a moment, he appeared vulnerable. It was a rare sight, seeing Tony Soprano, the infamous mob boss, so disarmed. But I knew better than to be fooled by appearances. He may have looked defeated, but I knew that beneath that mask lay a dangerous predator, capable of striking at any moment.

"You came here to kill me, didn't you?" Tony's voice was laced with a mix of curiosity and fear, his eyes fixed on mine.

I chuckled softly, leaning back in my chair, my demeanor relaxed as ever. "Now, Tony, why would I want to kill you? I'm not here to take your life, but rather to offer you an opportunity."

Tony's eyebrows furrowed, and he leaned forward, his curiosity piqued. "Opportunity? What kind of opportunity are we talking about?"

I took a sip of my now lukewarm coffee, allowing the silence to linger in the air before continuing. "You see, Tony, I've been keeping an eye on you for quite some time now. Your reputation, your influence, your empire—it's impressive, to say the least."

Tony's expression hardened, suspicion creeping into his eyes. "And just who the hell are you to be keeping tabs on me?"

I maintained a calm facade, my voice steady. "Let's just say I have connections, Tony. Connections that can make your already impressive empire grow even further. But it requires trust and a willingness to embrace new ventures."

The room fell silent, the air thick with anticipation. Tony's gaze bore into mine, his mind working through every possible scenario. Finally, he exhaled heavily, surrendering to the intrigue. "Alright, I'm listening. What's this opportunity you're talking about?"

A smug smile tugged at the corners of my lips as I saw the spark of ambition in Tony's eyes. "You've built a formidable criminal network, Tony. But what if I told you that there's a way to expand your operations beyond the streets of New Jersey? A chance to reach new heights, to dominate the criminal underworld on a global scale."

Tony leaned back in his chair, a small smile forming on his lips. The allure of power and influence was intoxicating. "Go on."

I leaned forward, lowering my voice to a mere whisper. "There's an underground organization, an alliance. They control everything—drugs, weapons, human trafficking. They operate in shadows, hidden from prying eyes. And they want you, Tony. They want the legendary Tony Soprano to join their ranks, to become a key player in their game."

Tony's eyes widened with a mix of excitement and apprehension. "And what's in it for me?"

I grinned, revealing a glimmer of teeth. "Power, Tony. More power than you could ever imagine. With their resources, influence, and international connections, you could take over the world. The streets will be yours to rule, and your enemies? They won't even know what hit them."

Tony's resolve hardened, his eyes filled with determination. "Alright, you've got my attention. Tell me more."

And so, a dangerous alliance was formed that day. With my guidance and the backing of a secret underground organization, Tony Soprano would rise to unprecedented heights, becoming a force to be reckoned with on a global scale. The streets of New Jersey would tremble in his wake, as he set out to reshape the criminal landscape, one calculated move at a time.

Little did he know, however, that the power he sought came with a price. As he delved deeper into this dark world, Tony would soon find himself entangled in a treacherous web of deceit, betrayal, and unforeseen consequences. And in this game of power, where trust was a luxury, and loyalty a fickle companion, Tony's greatest enemy would not be the rivals he faced, but the demons he carried within himself.

But for now, as Tony Soprano sat across from me, his eyes glinting with ambition, he had no idea of the trials that lay ahead. All he saw was a limitless horizon, a kingdom waiting to be seized. And together, we would navigate the treacherous waters of power, leading him down a path from which there would be no turning back.
