Senan and Maeve's Fateful Journey
·
Published 5/25/2023After being drawn into an ancient prophecy, average man Senan and beautiful Maeve embark on an adventurous journey to uncover a hidden treasure - yet the prize they find shakes their lives with an unimaginable destiny deeper than either of them expected.

In the beginning, there was the void.
The void had no room for mercy or compassion, and it certainly had no room for love. When the void noticed the first glimmer of life in a small, insignificant corner of itself, it began to weep. It wept so many tears that they filled every pore of its being, and every tear evaporated when it touched the surface of that small corner.
In this way, the void gave birth to light: each tear became a star. And in this way, the void gave birth to time: each star represented a day, and each day was given a name by those who lived their lives upon the surface of the void. Those people called the first day "Sunday", and they did not know what it meant.
And so, as time went on, more people were born upon the surface of the void, and more stars were birthed into existence. Some of these people learned to think, some of these people learned to speak, and some of these people learned to worship, but none of them could see all of the other people and stars all around them because they were afraid to look up or out into the darkness above or below them. Yet some few did learn to look up above them or down below them, and these few spoke with one another in various languages until they began to understand one another. Then they taught those who still couldn't see, who still didn't want to see, how to see as well, and slowly but surely these few grew into more than just "few".
These learned many things about themselves and their world. They learned that they were made from stardust and thus that they were connected to everything else in existence; they learned that time flowed around in cycles; they learned that those cycles repeated themselves endlessly; they learned that if you listened closely you could hear echoes of yesterday's future and tomorrow's past; and most importantly, believe it or not - most incredibly important - they learned that without light there is only darkness.
The truth is, the deepest darkness cannot be banished forever. Darkness can be held at bay for a little while by light alone; but eventually, even light will have nothing left to give, and then darkness will gnaw away at whatever remains until nothing is left at all. And again I say, believe it or not, the deepest darkness cannot be banished forever! So long as life exists on what we now call Earth, many dark days will fall upon us; yet believe this too: so long as we keep faith in one another, we shall never surrender our souls so easily! So long as we remember where we came from, we shall never fall so far!
Now there are many tales told here or there about what happened next - although which ones are true I don't know myself - but I can tell you this much: after billions upon billions of years, our sun grew old, it grew tired, and it died before its time. The void shuddered with unrestrained anguish as its children cried out for help into an infinite blackness which promised only suffering without end; but without fail, their pleas fell on deaf ears - for there was nothing left for god now except his own grief. And then - whether by chance or fate I do not know - our own little planet wandered too close to a neighboring star during its fiery youth, which flared up like wildfire across our atmosphere! The heat burned our oceans away almost immediately; giant chunks of rock rained down upon us from space, hitting hard enough to leave craters behind; rivers ran dry across dusty landmasses devoid of life; rain fell instead of snow against icy mountainsides; lightning flashed so often that tiny fires started by rubbing rocks together needed no fuel at all to smolder brightly for millions of years at a time; ultraviolet light caused dust clouds stirred up by gale-force winds to glow like neon signs even on nighttime streets; dust thickened so much near the poles that satellites orbiting high above our planet could no longer see through them; volcanoes erupted throughout entire continents sending ash high into the sky from which lightning bolts struck like lightning rods…
Eventually, everything perished, except for a handful of human beings who had found one another under such dire circumstances that their minds - driven insane by fear - merged together into one enormous, screaming entity fixated solely on survival! This entity tried desperately to preserve what remained within its grasp - despite knowing full well that there was nothing left worth saving! It devoured whatever scraps it could find within reach even though it knew full well that this kind of consumption would never solve anything! It pushed forward blindly towards what it believed (still believes) is salvation! It searched high and low across every inch it could reach until finally, it discovered an ancient treasure chest deep within an underground cavern filled with jewels and gold coins someone had been too lazy even before death to take along with him! Armed with this newfound wealth, this entity
