Smoky's Pirate Adventure

Published 3/15/2023Amidst the tumultuous oceans of the 16th century, the resourceful and passionate young pirate-in-making Connor, and his steadfast canine companion Smoky, must rise up against a sinister and powerful organisation to stop them from uncovering the secret beneath a mysterious car, or be faced with unthinkable consequences.
I was only a few years old when my mother told me the story of the first pirate.
He was a young, brave man from our village by the sea. One day, he saw a ship out at sea, flying a red flag. He boarded the ship and saw that it was filled with treasure! He stole as much gold and jewels as he could carry, then returned to his little fishing boat. His shipmates were afraid to go near the angry ship, so they waited while the young man rowed back to them.
"You took longer this time," said one of his friends. "Did you find anything?"
The young man held up a golden cup in reply. "This!" he said proudly.
"That's ridiculous!" laughed one of his shipmates. "A cup for all your hard work? We're not going to be able to buy much with that!"
The young man smiled and set the cup down on the deck of their tiny boat. "Wait until I sell it," he replied confidently. "I'll have enough money to buy ten boats just like this one! I'm going to be rich!"
His shipmates laughed again and slapped each other on the back. The sun was high in the sky, and they were eager to return home and boast about their friend's good fortune at the taverns by the docks. They set out across the waves, laughing and jostling each other playfully.
But as they neared land, they heard a loud explosion behind them. When they turned around, they saw that their boat had been hit by a cannonball! Their poor friend had been knocked into the water, right next to their overturned boat!
"What happened?" asked the young man fearfully as he swam toward his friends' boat. "Are we under attack?"
"No!" shouted another of his companions. "It was this blasted boat that exploded! We're lucky we weren't killed!"
