The Unleashing: When Giants Clash

The wind whipped at my face, forcing me to squint as I took in the view. From where I stood, high above the city in a skyscraper, the world was laid out before me like a checkerboard. The streets were just barely visible from this distance, but I could make out clusters of people huddled together in some places, and tiny cars moving along at speeds that would be near impossible to navigate.

Scattered throughout the streets were buildings of similar size and shape to the one I was standing on. They looked so fragile! So small! It amazed me that humans had been able to construct such things.

I turned away from the window, looking out into the room behind me. There was a single desk with a computer on it, some chairs, and a rather large machine mounted against one wall. The machine was unattended, which frustrated me- I wanted to know how it worked. My eyes drifted back over to the window; it was so beautiful up here. I decided to enjoy the view for a few minutes more before starting my work.

It seemed like only a moment later that there was a knock on the door behind me. Startled, I spun around and walked across the room to open it; if someone else had arrived early, they would need some time to get situated before we began our experiments... whatever those experiments might be. When I opened the door however, what I saw made my heart race and blood run cold: What stood before me was not man... no! It was something else entirely! It looked like a man, standing tall and proud with bright green eyes that stared into mine! But its skin was silky smooth and glowing brightly like fresh snow in sunlight; its body muscled and powerful looking!

"Who are you?" I asked, remaining calm despite my shock. "How did you unlock my office?! How did you get up here?!" Before I had finished speaking though, I realized how foolish my questions were; of course this otherworldly being didn't use any doors or elevators! Of course he couldn't be harmed by any simple locks!

The being smiled at me broadly before answering my questions with an even greater question: "What is your name?" His voice sounded like thunder in an empty valley; deep and resounding enough that his words caused ripples in what felt like the very air around us.

"I am Dr. Sedial!" I practically shouted as I bowed deeply toward him; to say otherwise would have felt disrespectful after seeing who he was. "And who might you be?"

The being chuckled lightly at my reaction; if it hadn't appeared so outlandish moments earlier, I would've thought him quite handsome when he flashed his perfect teeth at me again in response: "I am Superman."

Over the next several hours we spoke at length about our respective research projects... or rather he spoke while I listened intently. He told me all about his abilities: how he could fly through space faster than light itself; how he could shoot laser beams from his eyes; how he had trained every day for decades under Earth's sun to maintain his strength and speed against those who might challenge him...
