"I will not be taking part in the ritual sacrifice." Kaylee said simply.

She was sitting at the front of the gathered crowd, her legs crossed, looking like a queen on a throne. In reality she was seated on two large boulders that were laid horizontally on a flat stone as an improvised seat. The rest of the crowd was seated around her, many sitting on the ground and others standing. The sun was setting and the sky was starting to turn red, but torches were already lit around the gathering place so that everyone could see each other.

"But you must!" A small older woman cried out. "You are blessed! You have been chosen by the goddess to be her vessel, your blood will call down her spirit and we shall all bask in her glory!" She looked like she had been crying for hours. Her eyes were red and puffy and her face smudged with ash and tears. She had lost someone close to her and now another loved one was about to be taken from her.

Another man stood up from his place on the ground, he was tall and muscular, physically intimidating in every way, but behind him stood a woman who would stop him in his tracks if he tried to approach Kaylee or do anything threatening towards her. She too was tall and strong looking but she had a kind gentle face that softened anyone who looked at it. They both wore simple animal hide clothing like most of the people here did.

"No!! Do not listen to this lying witch!" He shouted pointing an accusing finger at Kaylee. Behind him stood his woman who rolled her eyes and frowned at his impetuous accusation. "She is not blessed by any goddess! She is not twenty one years old! She has lied to us all!" He spat with venom in his voice as he moved forward aggressively towards Kaylee. The gentle woman stepped between them both protectively holding out her hands to stop them from advancing any further towards each other but the aggressive man pushed past her knocking one of the torches off its holder as he passed and making his way directly towards Kaylee's rock throne.

"Liar!! Liar!!" He shouted as he approached closer and closer to Kaylee until he was only feet away from her perched position on top of the huge boulder throne surrounded by other angry people yelling at each other all surrounding Kaylee who sat serenely completely unaffected by it all just looking out over the crowd calmly waiting for them all to calm down so she could talk some sense into them all.

The older crying woman sitting directly in front of Kaylee put her head in her hands sobbing uncontrollably while next to her a younger women held onto her hand tightly trying to comfort her but getting more upset herself as she saw everyone else angry and shouting at each other they were supposed to be calming down not raising themselves up even more ready for a fight that could end violently with someone getting hurt or worse killed before they could finish their rituals tonight as planned.
