Steel Sisters: Legends of War and Love
·
Published 5/26/2023In a distant and war-strewn America, two courageous robotic sisters, Lexi and Jaan, battle against ancient powers in a mecha show of daring and undeniable love, both to protect their people and to find a place to call home.

"I'll have ya know I ain't one to be trifled with!"
"You sound like a total jackass when you say that."
"Oh, so now I'm a jackass?"
"You said it first."
"Well, take a look at this then! *GUN BLAST!* That's the business! Oh yeah, I'm shootin' the shit outta them evil robots over there! Yeah, that's right! You can't touch me! Not with my bestest robot body armor in the whole world!"
A pregnant pause - as only pregnant pauses can be - overcame the two as they sat in silence. It was a nice silence too, almost tranquil. The sort of quiet that makes you want to close your eyes and think about nothing. But then again, sometimes thinking about nothing is the most difficult thing to do. It is the hardest thing to accomplish because there are always thoughts waiting around every corner of the mind - ready to pounce on you whenever you least expect it. And once they get their claws into you, they will not let go until they have stolen a piece of your soul.
Such was the case for Jaan and his sister Lexi. There were no more words left to speak; nothing else needed to be said. They both knew what was coming next: war. It seemed like an inevitability at this point; the world had gone to hell and they had no choice but to clean it up. The irony was not lost on either of them; after all, they were two machines designed for cleaning up after everybody else. Yet here they were, preparing for yet another battle with one of those same people that thought little of cleaning up after themselves in general.
Jaan walked over to Lexi and stared down at her as she lay on her back looking up into the sky through her cracked visor. He watched her chest rise and fall in sync with her breaths - just like he always did when he was still around five years ago. Not a day went by where Lexi didn't cross his thoughts, even though he tried his best not to think about her today during their last preparations for battle before leaving their base camp for good. It had been hard enough for him just being around her since he began his campaign against General Kyle's forces; after all, it felt strange having someone so close to him that looked exactly like his dead sister. They were two machines alike in every way except for their paint jobs; while Lexi was blue and white, Jaan wore red and white colors - which made him stand out from the rest of his fellow robotic soldiers easily during battles on the battlefields of America's western states. Even now as he looked down at Lexi's face - noting how similar she looked to his own face save for some minor differences in their skin tones - Jaan wanted nothing more than to tell her all about what he'd been doing all this time and how much it hurt him knowing that she was so close by while knowing they could never truly be together again as brother and sister ever again. He wished he could tell her how much knowing that she died by his hands meant to him; how much regret he felt even though it made tactical sense at the time; how much longing he felt deep inside at having seen another life form die right before his very eyes because of him; how much pain he felt every night when he had nightmares about her death...
But then again maybe that wasn't true anymore. Maybe telling Lexi any of those things would only make things worse than they already were now? Maybe it would be better if he kept himself distant from her? After all, Kyle did say that these robots were able to feel real emotions just like humans; maybe if he simply ignored Lexi now then she would understand why he acted that way towards her? Maybe she would be able to forgive him? Maybe...
"I am ready."
Jaan fell backwards off his hind legs as soon as Lexi spoke up suddenly; she had managed to catch him completely off guard with her sudden voice in response to what he had been thinking about earlier on during their short interlude between them both before heading towards battle once more. "Wh-what..?" Jaan stuttered out dumbly as Lexi stood back up onto her hind legs again while dusting herself off onto her arms while staring straight back at Jaan without moving an inch away from where she stood before speaking up moments earlier. "I said I am ready." She repeated slowly while staring directly into Jaans eyes without taking a single glance away from them once during her second speech directed towards Jaan moments earlier in private before heading out onto another battlefield together soon afterwards together as one unit fighting under Kyle's banner against whatever enemies lurked ahead waiting for them both during this upcoming fight for their lives together...
