Eight Minutes of Destiny
·
Published 5/12/2023In 22nd century New Zealand, the quick-witted and courageous detective Naruto must help Goldilocks prove her innocence in a thrilling eight-minute adventure of pulse-pounding action as they unravel an intricate web of crime set against a family feud.

The rain fell hard as I drove. The sky was dark and the moon was hidden behind the clouds. I looked at my phone to check the time and it read: 2:15 AM. I knew that they would be awake, but there was no way that I could get there before 3 AM without driving off the road. I hated this, but it was better than nothing.
I turned on my headlights and tried to stay in my lane as the rain pounded down harder. My wipers just couldn't keep up with the rain and water was starting to pool on my windshield so I turned them off. It would be a bad idea to drive with no visibility, but I had no choice. If I wanted to save her, then this is what I had to do.
I was only a few minutes away from their house, when suddenly something in the road caught my eye. It was a rabbit. I slammed on my brakes and skidded as much as I could before finally screeching to a halt in front of the animal. It stared back at me for a moment and then hopped across the road and into the night.
I sat there for a second thinking about how close that was and how lucky that rabbit was to have survived all those years despite being surrounded by predators, yet here it is just running around unafraid of anything. A slight smile crossed my face before quickly turning into a frown as another thought crossed my mind: So why did Goldilocks have to die? Why did she leave Naruto alone like this?
I shook my head again trying to get rid of these thoughts before turning on my car's hazard lights and pulling out my flashlight from under my seat. With one last look of anger towards the sky, I put on my right turn signal and started slowing down, looking left and right at every turn until I saw it: Goldilocks' house.
I pulled over onto the side of the road and got out of my car with a sigh. This was going to be difficult, but if this worked then maybe just maybe everything will be okay again. The rain continued to fall harder than ever as I made my way up to the house with water quickly flooding around me. To think that just a few hours ago Naruto had danced in this very spot with his sister while he sang "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker...it's amazing how fast things can change...and now here he is, sneaking into his sister's murder scene to investigate his younger sister's murder...even though she isn't dead...yet... *sigh* What am i saying? Of course she isn't dead! She couldn't be dead! Not after all the times that she brought him happiness! They were twins! They were connected!! He knew that deep down inside she wasn't dead! He could feel her still living inside of him! He knows she isn't gone forever!! She'll come back!! She has too!! He won't let her die!! Not like this!! She's special!! She's his sister!! *breathe* There we go...i'm good now...time to focus...let's do this...
The house looked exactly like Naruto remembered it: Dark dirty blue paint peeling off in large chunks revealing an even dirtier white underneath; An old rusted gate that threatened to fall apart any minute; A walkway made of cracked cement leading you straight up two wooden steps onto a tiny porch; And finally an old door painted black with two black shutters on each side holding closed curtains covering up whatever light might be behind them from view. Naruto slowly approached the door, his flashlight illuminating his path past an open window where he could hear quiet talking taking place inside of the house beside it. He shined his flashlight through the window which revealed two men sitting at a table over some papers looking bored as they waited for something to happen. As Naruto walked past them towards the door he noticed that one of them seemed familiar somehow, but he didn't dwell on it because he didn't have time for distractions right now...he had somewhere important to be tonight...
