"Why on earth are you all gawking at me like that?"

The entire court room was silent.

"Your honor, please," Mr. Sullivan began, "this is an outrageous accusation! I demand the prosecution to explain why they think I am guilty of such a heinous crime!" He turned toward the opposing table, where a tall man with dark, slicked back hair and a suit was standing behind a young woman in handcuffs. The man had a smug grin on his face and stood with his arms crossed as if he owned the world.

The judge looked over her glasses at the prosecuting attorney and then at Mr. Sullivan.

"Mr. Kelly, would you care to explain your reasoning?"

Kelly replied, "Certainly." He turned toward his witness and said, "Miss Carlyle, would you please describe what happened before Mr. Sullivan arrived at your home that night?"

Carlyle took a deep breath, looked up at the floor for a moment, and then as though she were about to deliver bad news, she said: "Well... I was waiting for my fiancé to come home from work when there was a knock on the door. I opened it and there was this guy standing outside with a gun pointed right at me." She paused for a moment to wipe some tears away.

"And then what happened?" Kelly asked tenderly.

Carlyle continued, "Well, he told me to grab my purse and get into the car so he could drive us somewhere safe." Her eyes were starting to water again but she choked back her tears and continued. "I... I don't know why I did it but ... I went along with him."

"You didn't want to go?" Kelly asked in surprise.

"No! No way! But something inside told me that this guy wasn't going to hurt us or anything like that so ... I just did what he said. We drove around for a while until we got out of town and then he stopped in some park near the river..."

Carlyle's voice started getting shaky again as her tears started flowing down her cheeks: "He took my fiancé out of the car and told me if I didn't do exactly what he said then he would kill him right there in front of me. And then he made me get out of the car too ..." Her voice trailed off as she broke down crying uncontrollably now. The judge banged her gavel several times to quiet down the crowd that had suddenly gathered around the witness stand. After Carlyle regained control of herself again she continued: "He made me lay down on my back on top of some grass and then ... he climbed on top of me... and ... raped me." She dissolved into sobs again after saying those last three words, which were difficult for even an adult to utter without breaking down like that.

Carlyle was removed from the witness stand after she fainted from emotional stress just as Mr. Sullivan approached Kelly with his arms outstretched demanding an explanation for all of this nonsense: "What is going on here? You have no evidence against me! This is ridiculous!" The judge glared at Sullivan's behavior but let him continue his tirade: "What kind of detective are you? Do you think that people will believe these lies just because your investigator's report says I did it? What makes you think that anyone will take this seriously!?"

As it turned out - plenty of people took it seriously thanks to the news coverage by journalists who contacted Caiden after he managed to make headlines by tracking down the corrupt police chief who had been stealing money from drug dealers and forcing innocent people into slave labor all across Europe and North America for years before Caiden finally infiltrated their organization and brought them all down without killing anybody himself... including his father who started it all in order to make money for his family who was being threatened by some loan sharks who killed Ciddens mother when they couldn't find enough money to pay off their loan by selling off whatever they could find in their house to pay them off - including Caiden's bike which was given to them by Caiden's grandfather after Caiden's mom died in a car crash when she was hit head-on by another driver going under the influence - something which has always bothered Caiden - especially since neither party went blind or deaf and neither one ever spent more than one day in jail for driving drunk before being released without any real punishment which happens way too often these days... especially when people actually die from something like that because most police departments try their best not to ruin their own statistics by punishing people severely who cause these accidents... even though they know how serious these consequences can be when they happen sometimes putting themselves first instead of others like they're supposed to do... something which is common among police officers these days based on all the stories Caiden hears about corruption within police stations throughout Europe and North America... but maybe thats just him being paranoid since he tends to be overly cautious whenever dealing with authority figures because of things like this happening all throughout his life... maybe its better now than it used to be since apparently things have improved quite a bit over time which is good news since someone still needs to keep things under control... especially when things start falling apart like they're doing right now thanks to this new president who seems intent on dismantling everything achieved during Obama's administration including climate protections which we need desperately if we want humanity continue living past 2100 if we're lucky enough to live that long considering just how many problems we've created for ourselves over time... something which might finally be changing thanks
