Princess Daphne and the Dreadful Dragon
Not long after her seventeenth birthday, King Charon of the idyllic Mediterranean realm of Serboile received a dreadful warning. A beast of danger so great it threatened to drown the kingdom in darkness had awoken and soon sought to sow terror among his people. On the approaches of the sun setting over the horizon, King Charon commanded his trusted men to bring his daughter, the princess Daphne, to his court. Upon arriving, the King sternly warned Daphne of the black dragon to come and ordered her to remain in the city walls and protect her family in the castle. Daphne knew what had to be done, yet she could not help but feel scared at the thought of such a great creature existing. The terrible news spread quickly among the citizens of Serboile, and soon panic and despair spread among the people. Finally, word arrived that a colossal black dragon was soaring through the night sky, mercilessly raining fire and destruction upon the towns and villages in its wake.
With time running out, the threatened people of Serboile reached out for help to their princess. Daphne had grown up in her father’s presence and could only see kindness in his courageous stance for his worried people. Filled with resolve and bravery, Daphne declared her intent to face the dreadful beast and bring peace back to her realm. Armed and with her faithful knight, Sir Damien, by her side, Daphne set out to the dragon’s lair. What they found was unlike anything they expected there amidst the giant pile of bones and the burnt remains of a village lay the sole survivor – a young commoner who was probably his latest victim. Knowing that the creature was no respecter of persons, Daphne recognized the survivor was not allowed to be found and had to be returned home without being discovered.
Meanwhile, word of the beast’s intention of wreaking destruction had reached the Castle of Serboile. Convinced that the princess had been in grave danger, King Charon issued an edict to lock down the castle and forbid any person from leaving. With no other way out, Daphne and Sir Damien deceived the King by claiming that Daphne had stayed in the castle instead and leaving in the cover of night. Upon returning to the dragon’s lair, much to the surprise of the brave adventurers, the dragon did not rage nor act aggressively. Rather, it remained dormant as if nothing was out of the ordinary. After a few moments of puzzled silence, Daphne dared to make a move forward, disregarding the potential danger. As she approached the dragon, Daphne’s fear quickly deteriorated into fascination as she realized that beneath its black scales and monstrous features lied an immense good will and an unexplainable lure of fascination. Explaining to Ares that she had come in peace to rescue the victim the pair formed an unlikely bond. Unfortunately, Ares was in possession of knowledge that threatened the safety of the kingdom, leaving Daphne to make a bold decision. When the dragon heard of the kingdom’s situation, both Ares and Daphne were aware of the dire consequences he would suffer if the creature were discovered. As the two promised each other that they would one day reunite, it seemed to them like the kingdom held grim hope for potential success.
As the castle was invaded and the citizens fled for their lives, Daphne and her chevalier traversed the depth of Serboile once more in an attentive race against time. Knowing that time was not of the essence, Daphne and Sir Damien pursued the mad forces of evil and evil’s warlord, the infamous iron-handed Valens. On their quest, the duo found that strong magical forces had taken command of Serboile, and the forces of evil outnumbered them as they bravely fought against the cruel tyrants. In spite of the desolation, a glimmer of hope came when Ares resurfaced and aided the princess in battle. Together the dragon and their unlikely friends fought through the descending danger and managed to push the impending wickedness beyond their kingdom’s borders. At long last, victory came to the people of Serboile who, against all odds and overwhelming odds, were delighted to be delivered out of despair and prejudice. Following a victorious battle, the people of Serboile filed into the castle to thank their beloved princess. Daphne basked in her newfound status as the heroes of Castle Serboile, though all was overshadowed by her broken heart, for Ares was nowhere to be found. Moments later, the ground trembled and, to the astonishment of everyone, the feared creature had returned. As cheers and cheers for the legendary dragon rose to the sky, Daphne knew that their love, amidst all the agony, had found a happy ending.
