Another typical day at the village. Nothing new or exciting had happened in days and as a result, Letia sat on the grass, bored out of her mind. She looked around at everyone in the village and sighed.

She hated being stuck here, unable to move her legs. In order to get around she either had to be carried or hoisted up onto one of the horses. And even if she could somehow manage to get onto a horse, she would have no way of controlling it.

Her only friends were her fellow cripples from around the world. They didn't have anywhere else to go so they all ended up together. Letia was from St Kitts and her only friends here were from Jamaica, South Africa, Kenya, and New Zealand. For some strange reason, all these people ended up here in this particular part of New Zealand long ago. She didn't really know why herself but it was nice to have someone to talk to.

"Hey Letia!" said one of the New Zealanders named Daniel. "What's wrong?" he asked as he approached her. Daniel was a tall man with blonde hair and blue eyes who suffered from hemophilia since birth. His parents couldn't afford anything besides the simplest things so he ended up here after they died on their way back home one day when he was just eleven years old. The cold weather got the best of them both and he was left alone with no family or money - besides what his parents had saved for him before they died - which wasn't much at all now that he thought about it. He lived off whatever work he could find which usually involved helping out in the fields or doing manual labor jobs like fixing things in people's houses or making furniture for them during his free time.

"Nothing, I'm just bored is all," she replied lazily as she stared off into the distance, watching a couple walk by with a stroller. Their baby looked beautiful with its dark skin and curly dark hair and Letia suddenly felt very lonely without any children of her own to care for or love on. "I wish I could get married."

Daniel frowned as he sat down beside her, remembering how hard it was for him when he lost his parents because he still missed them dearly every day even though it was several years ago now. He would never forget how alone and scared he felt when they died and how badly it hurt watching them be buried lifelessly.

"Well, you're not married yet," said Daniel, attempting to console her.

"Yes," said Letia dreamily, staring off into space, thinking about the handsome local Maori named Dhani who had exchanged nothing more than a casual greeting with her every day in the fields where she had worked since moving here four days ago. She appreciated that Dhani had given her a ride back into town after they finished working together, enabling them to converse in a relaxed manner. As they walked and talked, Letia didn't care who overheard their conversation, as long as Dhani understood her feelings for him. With no secrets between them, she hoped fate would weave the threads of their lives together in the future.
