"Come on, Jack! It's time for dinner!" called Jack's mom from the kitchen.
Jack sighed and rolled his eyes. "I'm coming," he muttered under his breath.
As Jack made his way downstairs, he couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration. He was tired of being treated like a kid, tired of being told what to do, and most of all, tired of feeling ordinary. You see, Jack had a secret - he had superpowers.
Jack had been born with the ability to fly. It had been a shock to his parents when they discovered this as he attempted to crawl up the walls as a baby. Since then, they had done their best to keep his powers hidden from the world, fearing that others would not understand or accept him.
But now, at twelve years old, Jack was growing restless. He longed to use his powers for good, to help those in need and make a difference in the world. But every time he tried to bring up the subject with his parents, they would dismiss him or tell him that it wasn't safe.
As Jack sat down at the dinner table with his family, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more out there for him. He looked around at his parents and younger sister and wondered if they ever felt this way - if they ever felt like there was something missing in their lives.
"Is everything okay, Jack?" asked his mom with concern.
Jack blinked and realized that everyone was staring at him. "Uh... yeah," he replied quickly. "Just lost in thought."
His dad chuckled. "Well, try to stay present for dinner," he said with a smile.
As they ate their meal and made small talk about their day, Jack's mind continued to wander. He thought about all the possibilities that lay before him - all the ways he could use his powers for good and make a difference in the world.
After dinner, as Jack helped his mom with the dishes, he worked up the courage to bring up the subject that had been weighing on his mind.
"Mom," he began hesitantly. "I've been thinking... and I really want to start using my powers to help people."
His mom sighed and set down the dish she was washing. She looked at Jack with a mixture of love and concern in her eyes.
"Jack, we've talked about this," she said gently. "It's just not safe. There are people out there who wouldn't understand or accept you. We're trying to protect you."
Jack felt a wave of disappointment wash over him. He had known that this would be her response, but it still hurt to hear it.
"But Mom," he protested. "I can't just sit here and do nothing! I have these amazing powers, and I want to use them for good."
His mom sighed again and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I know it's hard, Jack. But sometimes, doing nothing is the hardest thing of all. Sometimes, it takes more strength to stay hidden than it does to show yourself."
Jack thought about his mom's words as he climbed into bed that night. He knew that she was only trying to protect him, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he was meant for something more - something greater than himself.
As Jack lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling, a thought occurred to him. Maybe his mom was right - maybe it wasn't safe for him to use his powers openly... but what if he could use them in secret?
A smile spread across Jack's face as an idea began to form in his mind. He would become a superhero - a masked vigilante who used his powers for good while still keeping his identity hidden from the world.
With this new plan in mind, Jack drifted off to sleep, his dreams filled with visions of soaring through the sky and saving the day.
And so, Jack's journey as a secret superhero began. He spent his days as an ordinary kid - going to school, doing his homework, and spending time with his family. But at night, when the world was asleep, he would don his mask and cape and take to the skies.
Jack used his powers to help those in need - rescuing cats from trees, stopping petty crimes, and even saving a few lives along the way. He never asked for recognition or thanks; he simply did what he knew was right.
As the years went by, Jack's reputation as a mysterious hero grew. People began to tell stories of the boy who could fly - stories of how he had swooped in out of nowhere to save the day. Some believed that he was just a myth or legend, but others knew that he was real - that there was someone out there watching over them and keeping them safe.
And while Jack's parents never knew about their son's double life as a superhero, they couldn't help but feel a sense of pride whenever they heard these stories. They knew that their son was destined for greatness - that he had found his purpose in life.
And so, Jack continued to soar through the night sky, using his powers for good and making a difference in the world - all while still being able to enjoy being an ordinary kid during the day.
For Jack had learned that it wasn't about having superpowers or being extraordinary; it was about using whatever gifts you had been given to make a positive impact on those around you. And in doing so, he had become more than just a hero - he had become an inspiration.
