The Unsettling Journey of Gerard and Maria

The biker sped through the empty roads, the cool night air whipping at his face. His bike roared beneath him as he drove faster and faster, pushing it to its limits. He didn’t want to stop just yet, he wanted to continue until he collapsed. He wanted to forget everything that had happened tonight.

He had been at the bar with his friends when Maria had walked in with a few of her own friends. They all looked so young, so innocent and happy. He had watched from afar as they laughed, danced and drank their way through the night. It was clear that they were all drunk, but Maria seemed more drunk than the rest of them. She stumbled into his friend Toby and fell into his arms.

“Oh my God! I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” she said, her eyes glassy. Toby smiled at her, sweat dripping down his head. He had been working on a shift at the factory earlier that day and hadn’t had time to take a shower before heading out for the night. The scent of hot metal clung to him.

“Yeah, I’m fine! Don’t worry about it, sweetheart! You alright there? You seem a little tipsy!” Toby said, grinning at her drunkenly. Maria giggled and nodded back at him with a smile that made Gerard sick to his stomach. He felt something stir inside him as he watched them talk for what seemed like hours before Maria finally went back to her table with one of her other friends and Toby went back over to where Gerard was sitting with the others.

Gerard couldn’t get that smile out of his head as he watched Maria leave with her friend Mary and Mary’s boyfriend Charles. Charles was one of those guys who thought he was better than everyone else just because he made more money than everyone else or because he had some fancy car that everyone else couldn’t afford but always wanted to drive themselves one day, even though they knew how dangerous they really were. The type of guy who always acted like he was helping people when really he was just looking out for number one, especially if it meant making someone else look bad in front of their friends so that people would think ‘oh look how great our group is because we have this smart guy in it who can solve this problem for us!’ Gerard hated people like Charles, especially when Charles tried to flirt with Maria since then it made him even more insufferable around everyone else because now he had proved that not only was he smarter than them but also better looking too since obviously Maria liked men like him over men like Toby who knew how to be polite to women even when those women were obviously too drunk to be talking to anyone let alone flirting with them. But maybe that wasn’t true either since Charles had already been married for several years to a woman almost ten years older than him who also worked at the same factory as him and lived in a big house in town whilst Toby lived in an apartment on the edge of town where he could save up enough money every month so that when the time came for him to go on a trip somewhere far away from all these jerks who thought they were better than everyone else because they were rich or because they could do things that other people couldn’t or maybe even because they didn’t give up their dreams no matter how many times life tried to beat them down or scare them away or whatever motive any person could have for being so self-righteous about themselves when really they should all be grateful for what they already have instead of complaining about what other people have that they don't.

Gerard snapped back into reality as another car sped past him on the road ahead of him and shook himself from his thoughts before accelerating again after it until it turned off onto another road further ahead of him and disappeared from sight just as quickly as it had appeared from behind him in the first place which was typical behaviour for arrogant rich guys like Charles who thought they owned everything around them including their cars which drove on their own sometimes making people like Toby wonder why anyone would ever want a car like that when you never really got anywhere fast anyway unless you spent all your money on gas or worse still if you put everything you owned into upgrading your ride only to find yourself stuck in traffic while everyone else drives past you without breaking a sweat because unlike certain types who think everything belongs to them not everyone wants their own expensive toy which doesn't really help anyone anyway especially not those who are forced by circumstances beyond their control not only into getting stuck in traffic but also into buying shit like gas just so they can afford something which they don't really need anyway just so certain assholes can feel good about themselves thinking how great their lives must be when really most people would rather spend their money on something more useful instead such as paying rent or going out on dates or buying new clothes or whatever happens when you live your life trying to acquire stuff which makes no sense whatsoever except for making other people feel envious about what others have instead of trying to make things better for other people instead especially if those other people are actually willing help those assholes achieve their dreams even if those dreams aren't exactly beneficial towards others since if anything those assholes deserve nothing more than consequences for behaving like asses towards people who have nothing but love inside them waiting to help these once-assholes change their ways but not anymore since now these once-assholes are being rewarded by some higher force in charge of this place calling itself society or whatever by having everything handed right over to them without having done anything worthwhile even once in their lives besides being born into wealthy families which is hardly something worth celebrating considering how many other people are born into poor families who work hard everyday just so other people can sit around doing nothing except for taking up space and water resources whilst trying not only destroy these resources but also destroy lives left right and centre along the way until eventually someone decides enough is enough and tells them off before reminding them why they are here in the first place: To contribute positive changes towards society rather than negative ones otherwise else risk facing dire consequences including death which is hardly kind considering how many people die every day due to things out of their control like diseases or accidents or wars which suck apart from anything else but are necessary sometimes because war is war which is why we need soldiers sometimes even if soldiers don't always win wars sometimes we need soldiers anyway despite knowing full well that most soldiers will die fighting against enemies intent on corrupting our culture stealing our resources killing anyone standing between us destroying us etc etc ad infinitum ad nauseam until eventually we're taken over by invaders hell-bent on enslaving us treating us worse than animals forcing us into labour camps torturing us killing us torturing our families humiliating our loved ones raping our wives making false promises about saving us eventually destroying everything we know until nothing remains but dystopias ruled by evil dictators whose only intentions are corruption destruction mayhem despair pain torture suffering death pain misery despair chaos anarchy overthrow democracy rotten eggs putting all eggs in one basket etc etc ad infinitum ad nauseam until finally we decide we've suffered enough have decided enough is enough decided enough is enough decided enough is enough decided we won't take any more anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore anymore no longer will pay attention listening watching nodding obeying following pleasing pretending agreeing consenting agreeing agreeing agreeing agreeing yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes Yes!
