"I can't believe it!" Kalvin's father shouted, slamming his palms on the kitchen table, causing their dinner plates to rattle. "The damn ref didn't give you a break. He said he saw all of your hits, but there were many times you were sure you connected with him."

"Yes, Dad," Kalvin replied solemnly, not looking at his father.

They had already been over this countless times since the fight. In fact, they had even gone back and watched it together. Almost everything was in the ref's favor: apparently, no matter how many times you hit someone or how hard you landed those hits, if the ref didn't see it, it didn't count. The ref even admitted to looking away sometimes because of all of the action in the ring. His blue corner scored most of its points from cheap shots that went unnoticed by the ref while he was looking away.

"I just don't understand why he called me out on that last hit," Kalvin continued gloomily. "If I get that last point and win the match by a point I'm being awarded a championship belt; if I lose by a point then I don't get one."

"Maybe they're going to have an exhibition match between both fighters and award the belt to whoever wins?" His father suggested optimistically.

"Dad," Kalvin replied exasperatedly, "I only fought against one guy; we both know he's going to stay undefeated."

"That Jenk character is a monster! No one has even come close to beating him before." Kalvin's father sighed with disappointment as he looked at his son's glum face. "Son, there will be other fights for sure... When did you first start fighting anyway? It feels like yesterday when you were three and knocked out your grandpa with a headlock during a family gathering... You were so proud of yourself that day; you wouldn't let go of him for hours."

Kalvin smiled at the memory but then quickly frowned again. "Thanks for saying that Dad; I know there are many more fights ahead for me. I'll try harder next time... Next time..."

Two Years Later:

Jolag awoke with a jolt from his sleep, instantly sensing that something had gone terribly wrong. Surveying his surroundings, he realized he was in his bedroom, which appeared mostly as he remembered it, except for one glaring difference: his most precious belongings were missing. His twin daggers Lynx and Wolf, his dragon scale armor, and his magical black cloak that granted the power of invisibility were all strangely absent.

Feeling dizzy from the panic, Jolag struggled to get up and search for his possessions. As he tried to summon his weapons or don his armor, searing pain surged through him upon each attempt. Heartbroken and confused, Jolag began to weep softly. It seemed as though not only had his prized possessions been taken away, but also his once-great powers rendered unusable.

Suddenly, a loud knock at the door startled Jolag, causing him to shudder with fright. He had been in hiding for the past four years, and anyone capable of finding him possessed unspeakable power. He thought back to Rainworldia, the place of his birth and early childhood visits; as far as he knew, its very existence remained a secret to all but a select few.

As the heavy footsteps retreated from his door, an anxiety-ridden Jolag stood frozen in fear, wondering what might have befallen his world. Who could have discovered his secret? How could they have done so? Were they plotting their return as he fretted about his predicament?

Unable to move due to the crippling dread of what might come next, Jolag wept even more. Unwillingly immobilized and filled with despair, he was left to wait fearfully for the inevitable arrival of those who would reveal his secrets and force him into a bleak unknown.
