Snowed in Love
·
Published 3/15/2023Strangers Chris and Keri, wielding strong emotional and sensual chemistry, are forced to rely on one another for warmth during a snowstorm, allowing them to discover something far deeper and more profound. Will their newfound bond be enough to survive the aftermath of their passionate night together, or will their differences be their eventual undoing?
I groaned as I rolled over, my face smacking against the cold wood floor. I groaned again and forced myself to sit up. My head was throbbing, my stomach was churning, my mouth tasted like death.
I looked around the room and saw a figure in the corner, huddled under blankets. It took me a moment to realize that there was another human being here with me. The realization made me feel sicker than I already was. My memory of the night before was fuzzy at best but there were a few things that had left an imprint on my mind that I couldn’t seem to scrub away no matter how hard I tried.
The first thing that stood out in my mind was our arrival at this cabin. We had driven for what felt like hours in the storm after leaving the bar. As we drove up the old dirt road that led to this old cabin buried in a thicket of trees, Chris had started to question why these people would leave their cabin in such a terrible storm, but I ignored him and just kept driving into the thick of it all.
As soon as we got out of the car, we both felt miserable from the cold and wind whipping against our faces. We ran inside and slammed the door behind us, shutting out the storm for just a few moments with a temporary sense of relief as we panted and struggled to catch our breath.
We found ourselves standing in an old living room with only one small window letting in any light at all. The room itself was relatively clean so I assumed someone lived here or used to live here at some point. We continued on through the house looking for something useful and found an old wooden table stacked with canned food and boxes of cereal along with some other groceries still in bags and wrappers, which meant they hadn’t been opened yet. There were two bedrooms upstairs each with a twin bed and a dresser next to each bed. The closets contained old clothes that were more than likely useless now considering they were so out of date, but Chris insisted on trying them on anyway while I went around cleaning up anything that could be considered useful then putting it back where it belonged when he handed me something to carry down stairs so he could try on whatever it was he decided to wear next.
After about twenty minutes of searching through everything in sight, we finally headed back downstairs where I began making dinner using some canned goods we had discovered earlier while Chris went outside to try and start up the car so we could turn off the heaters and have somewhere warm to sleep tonight once dinner was finished cooking over an open fire pit we had dug out earlier when we realized neither one of us had thought to bring any matches or lighters with us from home when we ran off so suddenly last night without thinking about anything other than getting away from everyone or anyone who might have seen us together or making any assumptions about us being together which would be far too much scrutiny for our liking right now considering how public our relationship is at school right now between the two of us being caught kissing not once but twice by different teachers while two months ago Chris almost lost his job because of me sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong if you know what I mean…and so on and so forth…you get my point? So…anyway…
After dinner was done, Chris went inside while I cleaned up then went outside myself where he told me he wanted to show me something he found earlier when he decided to go explore around alone while I cooked dinner because apparently he needed something else “to do” since he wasn’t allowed anywhere near the stove on his own or near anything sharp for that matter because apparently he has “a tendency to cut himself” whenever given even the slightest opportunity…whatever…because honestly it just made me sick thinking about him handling knives or sharp objects since that means I have to think about him being reckless by accident somehow or even purposefully cutting himself for attention after being rejected by someone else who he decides isn’t good enough for him or whatever stupid reason he might have invented as justification for his actions which are really just pathetic attempts at gaining sympathy from those who care enough about him which ends up making him look even weaker if you ask me…but whatever…anyway…he grabbed my hand as soon as he came back inside and said “I want you to see this! Come outside! It’s beautiful! You have got to see this! It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before! You won’t believe your eyes! But don’t follow me because if you do then we will both miss it! Just stay here where it’s nice and warm until I get back! Trust me! You will regret it if you don’t wait here! Just stay here where it’s safe! Promise me you won’t follow me!” And then he dragged me outside toward this tree line just past where the driveway turned into nothing but weeds leading into the woods beyond until stopping abruptly under a large oak tree where his body pressed up against mine as we watched what seemed like thousands upon thousands of snowflakes dancing across sky shimmering like stars in mass formation drifting slowly downwards toward earth covered in white dust lighting up red moon hanging low overhead watching over all creation staring down upon us with its glowing red eyes shining bright like crimson rubies sprinkled across dark velvet sky glistening silver moonlight reflecting off falling white crystals sparkling bright against dusted ground beneath blanketed world until darkness swallowed
