"The lamb is here for the slaughter."

I stared into the dead eyes of the man speaking to me from the darkness. There was no sliver of light to break through into whatever pit I had found myself in with this man, but I could feel his presence on my skin. His voice was soft and subtle, like a hushed whisper, but it seemed to echo in my mind. It never stopped.

"You know what you need to do." He continued. "You will find the trident and use it to release us."

"Who are you?" My voice trembled as I spoke. "Where am I? Why can't I see you?" I tried to look around but found that wherever I turned my head, there was only blackness.

"You should be able to see me by now. You've been training long enough." He said with a hint of disappointment in his tone. "Well then, if you are ready, I'll show you something else."

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder blade as a cold blade sliced through my clothes and pierced my flesh. The pain was very real and very intense, but strangely enough, I didn't feel any blood as it ran down my back and dripped onto the floor beneath me. The blade withdrew and the man's hand grabbed hold of my shoulder and pulled me upright from where I had been kneeling in front of him before he began pushing me towards one direction until we came across another person much like the first man who stood facing away from us a few paces ahead of us so that we never saw their face. This person faced a barred door in front of them that looked like it was made out of solid iron. As we got closer, I noticed that this person was wearing clothes similar to mine; a white tunic with red trim and brown sandals upon their feet, only they were not wearing any sort of shirt or robe over their tunics like I did and they were wearing a blue cloak over their shoulders instead of brown like mine. They also wore yellow stripes on their tunic while mine had none of those markings on it at all. We approached this second person slowly until we were almost touching them when suddenly everything went black again and silence blanketed us once more as we stood alone together in an empty space, separated by darkness with only our voices to provide a sense of connection.

"What did you show me?" My voice sounded hoarse and weak now. "Why can't I remember? What was that place? Who was that person?" A feeling of dread crept up inside of me, as if something significant had been revealed but remained hidden just out of reach within my mind.

"Do you understand now?" He asked calmly while stroking my hair lovingly with his hand, still holding tightly onto my shoulder so that escape was impossible.

"Yes..." My voice cracked as tears streamed down my face, the full weight of the revelation settling upon me. The realization of the truth sent me spiraling into despair, unable to accept the reality that had been presented to me. My emotions swung between rage and heartbreak, voicing every question and agony as they churned within my mind.

This time when the darkness returned and our surroundings disappeared, there were two voices speaking softly in the void – one filled with anguish, crying out against the injustice of life; the other quietly reassuring, laying bare the hard truths that had been obscured from view. And in the midst of that shared darkness, the fabric of existence seemed to unravel, connecting us and binding us together through our fleeting whispers as we navigated this mysterious abyss of pain and understanding.
