"You're doing it all wrong! You don't need to write your life down. It's not a book!"
"But you told me that I had to write my life down if I wanted to tell my story."
"I did not."
"Yes, you did. You said I had to start at the beginning and fill in the details as I went along."
"Listen, kid. It's not a diary. It doesn't need to be chronological. It doesn't need to be correct. The most important part of telling your story is making sure it ends the way you want it to end. Not the way that actually happened. Are we clear?"
"Is this really how you want your life to end?" I ask myself...or rather, Themselves. They look up at me with their big brown eyes, seemingly oblivious to what's happening around them. The chaos, the noise...everything seems so distant from where they stand, but still close enough for me to reach out and touch them if I tried hard enough. "They're just babies," I say softly. "They've lived their whole lives never knowing anything else other than this." My voice trails off as I begin thinking back on my own childhood...how innocent and naive I was back then.
I was born into a world of two worlds - one full of prosperity and happiness; the other, humility and despair. Both worlds were equally frighteningly beautiful, but one was always more prosperous than the other. One was filled with love and laughter, while the other was filled with hate and sadness. They were like two sides of a coin - one could never exist without the other existing just as strongly, each pulling on both ends until it split in half, leaving nothing but two halves lying next to each other on top of the same table covered in dust or dirt...which could only mean that one side was in need of cleaning and wiping off before it begins rotting away under the heat of time and decay while the other stands tall against time's wrath with its shiny luster intact as it waits patiently for someone to polish it up again so that it can reclaim its place in this world...or perhaps so that someone can destroy it by accident when they try cleaning up one side instead of another?
