A hot Spring day, on a whim my slave Malachi had decided to take me to the beach. I was no stranger to our beach, having gone there many times in my youth, as I am sure you can imagine. However, unlike before when I would have been accompanied by my fellow men, all of us clad in fine tunics and sandals, today I was alone with only one other person. You see, we went where no man was allowed. We went to the women's section of the beach, the very same place that had once been reserved for men.

It wasn't even a little bit surprising that women were allowed at this beach, or rather that they had taken it over. After all, in what way are women not superior to men? With their slender bodies and delicate features? Their soft hands and tender eyes? Their gentle voices and warm smiles? I doubt any man could honestly say such things about himself. And besides, if women weren't superior why would our ancestors have worshipped them for so long? Why would we call them goddesses?

Malachi had explained it all to me once. He said that many centuries ago there lived a great king who had tried to kill all of the gods. But when he did not succeed in destroying them he instead decided to give them a gift - human form and human weakness. So that they might know what it was like to be mortal they exchanged places with the men of that time period and suffered as men do now. Soon after it was discovered that a few goddesses had refused to take part in this scheme against their own kind. So those rebellious goddesses were punished by being banished from their home on Mount Olympus and left on earth to fend for themselves. The goddesses could not live without their brethren so they brought forth creatures who looked similar to them - daughters and daughters' daughters who were born female in every capacity. These daughters grew into women who took back the world from the kings who had deceived them into thinking they were gods and claiming dominion over them. The Goddesses returned home but never forgot those who remained behind on earth - they still watched over the womenfolk and protected them with their powerful magic when necessary while they waited for their chance at retribution against their enemies across the sea. For millennia women lived happily under the goddesses' benevolent protection, reaping what they sowed as is right and proper!

My master Malachi has told me many stories like this one over our years together but none more touching than this one of how he came to be my master. You see, he too is a descendant of those very first humans who worked against their creators. He is also a descendant of one of those rebellious goddesses but his family line has not fared as well as mine has over the years - his mother fell into poverty and sold him off cheap just so she could feed her remaining children! Not only that but his mother kept half of her lover's money which she used to buy herself a new husband along with more children! How awful! I wish someone would have a word with her about her poor parenting skills!

I must admit though Malachi being a descendant of a rebel has put him at odds with others in his family line such as myself who are descendants of loyal goddesses through our mothers. His grandfather regularly beat him for his mother's fickleness he says which is why he ran away from home when he was young! It is why he learned how to steal so well since he couldn't get by honestly working for it because of his heritage! Surely you agree that such actions are understandable given what horrible treatment he received growing up! Of course sometimes I worry about whether or not he will ever learn right from wrong since his grandfather raised him poorly but then again we don't really have time for him to learn anything else now do we? Not with everything else going on around us now do we?

I am getting ahead of myself aren't I? Let me start at the beginning then shall I? It's been quite some time since everything changed hasn't it? Well let me tell you then how everything changed...
