The cow walked slowly down the road, his hooves kicking up little clouds of dust into the air. A gentle breeze blew through the dry grass, and he could hear the other cows in the distance as they ate their hay and interacted with one another.

So peaceful, he thought. There was nothing like being a cow. His brown eyes stared at the horizon, where the dirt road met with the vast expanse of desert.

What would it be like to live in that place? he wondered. It seemed so barren and lifeless, but also extremely...interesting. He had heard many stories about the land that lay beyond this village - tales of adventure and mystery; tales of powerful magic and wondrous animals; tales of love and war.

He smiled gently to himself, knowing that such places really did exist in this world, but just not for cows. Only humans could experience those things.

"How can I live my life without ever having experienced such wonders?" he asked himself as he walked along, kicking up more dust as he went. "I mean, look at me! I'm practically a statue! The only thing that gives me any joy is when people milk me." He laughed to himself softly.

"Why do I allow myself to be treated this way? After all, I am a *cow*, right? And cows are there to be milked by humans and die when we get old." He shook his head sadly as he continued walking down the road towards the village square, which was where most of the farmers brought their cows every morning to be milked before going off to work on their farms or in the mines or in whatever it was that humans did other than run around in strange outfits fighting each other with swords or bows and arrows or whatever they were fighting each other with these days.

"Maybe it's time I accepted my fate," Mac mused. "After all, what else is there for me out here? All I do is eat grass from morning to night and sleep on soft beds of hay at night." He chuckled softly again as he imagined what his friends would say if they could hear him talk about his "soft beds of hay". "They'd probably roll their eyes at me," he said aloud with a smile on his face. "That's okay though," he added quickly. "I really don't mind being mocked for who I am anyway." He sighed softly as he kicked up another cloud of dust into the air as he walked along.

As Mac approached the end of the dirt road and entered the village square, his attention was drawn to something unusual: a group of four men in strange clothes were standing near one of the large stone buildings that sat in the middle of the village square. The men turned suddenly towards him as he approached them and stared at him curiously with smiles on their faces.

Mac stopped walking immediately when he saw them staring at him like that and began to cower slightly while moving back away from them, glaring back with wide eyes full of fear.

"Who...who are you?" asked Mac nervously. "What are you doing here?" The men just smiled even wider now and chuckled softly amongst themselves as they looked at Mac with amused expressions on their faces. One of them approached him slowly and knelt down onto one knee so that his face was nearly level with Mac's own head - which was rather small for a cow since Mac was an Angus breed cow - and gently stroked Mac's side between his shoulder blades with both hands while smiling kindly towards him.

This made Mac feel somewhat better about being surrounded by these strange men who had obviously never seen a cow before in their entire lives if they didn't know how to treat one properly - although it also made him feel even more scared than before because why else would they approach him while behaving like they didn't know how dangerous cows could be? It wasn't until after a few moments of watching this man stroke his side gently did Mac finally realize *why* these men were acting so strangely towards him: they thought *he* was some sort of strange creature instead!
