The Last Descendant: Thomas' Epic Quest

We walked for what seemed like hours. It was hot, a scorching sun beating down on us. I felt the sweat drip from my brow and run down my cheeks. My feet were heavy and blistered, blood seeped from between my toes, leaving pinkish red trails behind me.

“We have to stop soon, little one. We must let your feet heal in preparation for tomorrow’s journey.” The fox panted heavily, clearly exhausted from the journey himself. I nodded weakly, my throat dry and parched from thirst.

He led me to a stream that ran through the woods. We sat quietly, enjoying the cool water as it trickled over rocks and moss covered branches before rushing off into the distance. He plucked a few leaves of mint and placed them in his mouth before handing me some mint as well. My stomach rumbled at the smell of food, but my appetite had yet to return since leaving home.

The mint helped clear my head a bit, but I still felt faint and dizzy, possibly because I hadn’t eaten anything in days except berries and nuts. My caretaker handed me some lunch he packed for the day before we left home; cheese wrapped in a piece of flaky crust with a slice of apple on top, still slightly warm from the sun’s heat this morning.

I folded it up neatly into my palm and popped it into my mouth before handing him back the remains of his lunch; an apple core which he took gratefully from me.

When we finished eating we stood up and continued walking through the woods until we reached a clearing where a small cottage stood in a field of lush green grass with yellow flowers dotting it here and there.

A small woman with long dark hair was outside tending to some crops when she looked up at us approaching and smiled warmly at us both with her deep amber eyes shinning brightly beneath her dark lashes. She whispered something to her garden before she walked over to us and threw her arms around me tightly crying happy tears of joy while stroking my beard affectionately while whispering that I had gotten so big since she last saw me last year at spring festival time during harvest festival time when I was just a baby following after momma always getting into mischief together while she tended to all our chores together as friends until momma had passed away suddenly one day making us grow apart after that day I never saw you anymore until one day I got word that you were chosen by the gods or so they call themselves anyway and that you would be travelling across the world to fight against an evil sorcerer trying to take over our world because he wants power to reign supreme! They say you are going to save us all little one! If only your mother could see you now! Oh how proud she would be! How proud! She would be so proud!

She cried again hugging me close to her chest sobbing loudly as if she was weeping for someone who has passed away or so it would seem until finally after a few minutes she calmed down enough to talk again taking deep breathes before wiping her tears away with her hands on her dress while staring at me intensely with those deep amber eyes staring straight into mine nearly making me lose myself in those beautiful depths of hers if not for the fact that right next to me stood an old friend who pulled me out of my trance by tapping his foot against mine impatiently waiting for me to give him back his lunch which he quickly snatched greedily from my hand before biting into it fiercely devouring what was left of it in less than thirty seconds finishing off his meal before licking his lips clean and wagging his tail happily enjoying every bite of food he ate apparently forgetting all about his encounter with this strange human female though once he finished eating he walked over towards her sniffing curiously while glancing timidly up at her face waiting for permission to touch her however she didn't give him permission instead she turned away from him making him whimper pitifully as if he was hurt by such cruel treatment causing him to whine sadly flicking his tail back and forth slowly shaking his head left right then left right again suddenly turning back around towards her then just as suddenly turning away again causing him to bark loudly several times causing her to jump so high in surprise that I only just manage to catch her before she fell flat onto the ground thankfully saving herself from falling face first into the dirt that would have surely damaged her face badly if not worse depending on how hard she hit it making me wonder just what caused him to bark like that? But now here is where things get really interesting as none other than myself can tell you because I was there when all this happened besides being there I was also inside the mind of that dog or fox whatever you want to call him but anyways back on topic after barking loudly for what seemed like an eternity he suddenly stopped putting an end to all that loud noise like out of nowhere making everyone within ear shot turn around towards him including myself who jumped out of surprise almost dropping this poor girl who is currently clinging onto my arm trembling deeply with fear unable to move out of fear despite wanting nothing more than too go inside this place called home which looks very nice indeed quite spacious too by the way even though it's getting dark already outside it seems much nicer in here don't worry girl you'll feel safe here alright? As long as there's no dogs here eh? Because they scare you silly girl why do they scare you? Dogs? Because they look mean? Well maybe they do but don't worry you've got nothing bad coming your way here little one because these dogs are nothing like any others ever seen because these dogs are magical! Magical dogs! Magical dogs! Who say strange things like: hey boy do you think we should accompany him? And then another dog says: Yeah why not let's go digger well have fun little guy cause we're going along for fun too but ya know what? This isn't really about those dogs anymore because usually we wouldn't get involved with stuff humans do but since this is related somehow or rather indirectly related anyway since those guys said something about helping our friend here see things differently so let's change gears shall we? Now lets talk about our hero Thomas instead shall we? Thomas standing there watching all this unfold wondering why everyone else is ignoring everything else except what's going on between this chick and our friend here who looks mighty happy right now as well cause look at how excited he looks right now ooh ooh look at how cute this is lol wait maybe someone else should tell Thomas what's going on hmm...how about our wildcat friend huh? No no wait scratch that idea!
