Rebellion Brings Clarity: The Dragon of Typhos

I had seen the dragon once, when I was a child. I was seven years old then, and with my father on a field trip to see the dragon. I remember how awe-inspiring it was back then; how its scales glittered in the sun, and how it seemed that it could swallow the world whole.

It ate the whole village. The dragon's name is Tiamut, but they call it 'the Great Wyrm'.

I never thought I'd be involved with dragons again after we left the village and moved to Morvan Vale. It's not like we ever saw them there; I've lived twenty-five years in Morvan Vale without seeing a single one of those terrifying beasts.

But here I am now, imprisoned by one of them.

I remember that day; I was visiting my sweetheart at her house, just as any other day. And then there was a flame sweeping across the horizon; I saw it clearly from where I was standing. Some kind of raid, maybe?

"What do you think?" my sweetheart asks me anxiously from behind me. "Do you think we should get out of here?" She has her axe slung over her shoulder, though she looks unready to use it yet. Not that I blame her; this is our home after all. But still, maybe we should run away? Maybe it'll make things worse if we don't?

"I... don't know." My voice cracks slightly as I say this; maybe my sweetheart recognised that it wasn't my normal voice because she didn't reply right away either. We stood there staring at each other for what felt like ages before she finally spoke again.

"Maybe... maybe we should get out of here while we still can." Her face is pale; usually she has an almost permanent smile on her face, but now she looks tired and sickly instead of happy and cheerful. "Come on." She grabs my arm and drags me towards the exit of the town hall where we were having our weekly date together over lunchtime. "Let's go."
