As Tom and his team investigate the strange deaths, they quickly discover that these peculiar cases might suggest something far-reaching human events, something occult and mysterious, hinting at the involvement of something ancient and unknowable beneath the surface. Despite being initially suspicious of both the nature of the cases and the people involved in them, he begins to gain some leads. To complicate things, Tom soon discovers that his investigation is not without obstacles. He realises that he is up against a well-equipped and powerful adversary. He also discovers a pattern lurking in the evidence, something that connects all of the murders across time and space. Tom works diligently to uncover the hard evidence and build the case against this perpetrator. With the help of his team and some particularly courageous locals, Tom eventually manages to find physical evidence that links the unknown force to the recent murders. The mysterious person or thing behind these killings turns out to be a supernatural being, something far beyond an ordinary human.
