To Infinity and Beyond: The Legend of Elroy's Starry Voyage
·
Published 3/30/2023Courageous Captain Elroy of the PCS Red Fury leads his band of furry anthropomorphs on an extraordinary interstellar voyage to explore the wonders of a 4th century BCE solar system - but what perils await them and will their courage, determination and dedication be enough to answer the unanticipated questions that arise along their voyage?
"Captain, we reached the destination."
"Excellent news, chief! Any signs of life?"
"None that I can detect. Not even any radio signals from this system."
"Not surprising. Planet 4 is a gas giant, no signs of intelligent life on it at all. It's quite cold in this system. The star's a red dwarf. It'll be a few more decades before we can send any ships to explore Planet 3, so there's no point in sending you down now." Captain Elroy told his chief engineer, Odie. He had been through many space flights with the little black and white dog, and they had always worked well together. "The other two planets should be habitable though."
"I see. So what are our orders then?"
"We have to wait for the rest of the crew to arrive before we can set up camp on their surface."
The Red Fury was a small ship designed for exploration. It only had room for a crew of nine cats and dogs, and a dozen rabbits - who were mostly technicians and engineers anyway since rabbits were known for their technical expertise. Captain Elroy sat at his captain chair while he spoke to his crew through the intercom: "All right everyone, listen up! We've reached our destination!" There was an audible cheer at the announcement. "Our first mission is to study the second planet of this system. It looks like a nice place, plenty of blue water, trees and mountains surrounding a big blue ball that looks like home - but let's be careful out there just in case there are some dangerous animals out there." He finished with a warning smile as he looked into each camera feed of every member of his crew as they responded with shouts and cheers of joy. "As for our second planet - Planet 4? Well it's too cold in here for us to walk around without protection, but don't worry because we carry some pretty advanced heaters with us - so you will still be able to do your job efficiently even when working on the surface! Don't forget about your supplies either; your food supply will last you for the next couple months if we don't find anything interesting on those planets - but just in case we get bored and want something new to eat..." he could feel himself laughing as he continued "...then we will bring back some new delicacies from these planets!" The whole ship rang with laughter as they remembered their last mission where they traveled to 521 BCE Earth where they brought back some coffee beans which were later turned into delicious coffee by their rabbit engineers using ancient technology they had brought along with them. Everyone enjoyed some coffee back on earth after their return during their docking port visit at an interstellar trading station called CATS-FURY CATTERERS INC., which was owned by Captain Elroy himself who had founded the company with his own money when he retired from the Space Patrol Fleet based at Andromeda Star Cluster (which was located 3000 light years from Earth). They had spent three weeks at CATS-FURY CATTERERS INC., enjoying themselves until it was time for them to go back into deep space once again on their way to another unexplored system near Orion Star Cluster (which was located 5000 light years from Earth).
