Ina & Bosco: A Timely Adventure
·
Published 5/31/2023Ina and Bosco, two brilliant scientists in ancient Australia, unknowingly create a time machine that poses a daunting challenge- they must figure out how to fix the consequences of their mistake before the future itself unravels in an epic journey of courage, friendship, and adventure!

The pale woman stuttered as she spoke, looking at the man standing before her.
Bosco was a short man with a bulbous head and a white beard that extended down to his chest. His eyes were stark blue, and he looked like a gnome from a children's book. He stared back at Ina, who was tall and thin with long brown hair, pale skin and wide brown eyes. Bosco's face was wrinkled, and he looked as though he were constantly confused by life.
"Are... are you sure?" said Ina. She paced back and forth in front of the machine they had created. It was strange device with two levers, one on each side, that extended high above their heads. They stood upon a platform at the top of the levers, which connected to them by four thick metal spokes that crisscrossed into a diamond pattern. The machine was made of wood, though it gleamed darkly with oil and polish. Behind it stood the vast cave where they made their home, along with small wooden houses they had carved out of the rock walls.
"Yes," said Bosco. "I have run numerous tests over the past few weeks - it is ready to go."
"But... but we don't know what will happen! What if it destroys us? Do we even have enough power for such an experiment? We cannot just create something so dangerous without knowing how it works!" cried Ina.
Bosco sighed deeply and plopped himself down on the floor in front of the machine, leaning against its wooden frame. His brows creased as he gazed up at Ina with tired eyes. "We can't live here anymore," he said finally. "We've been here for six years now - all our food is gone and our supplies are running low."
Ina froze in place as Bosco spoke, his words ringing in her ears like thunderclouds rolling in overhead. Her breath caught in her throat and she choked back a sob; she felt faint again - she had been feeling lightheaded since they had discovered this cavern three years ago when their boat had run aground on rocks near their home village on the other side of the island. For some reason, even though they knew nothing about this place or what might happen to them here, they had chosen to stay instead of going back home to the village where they grew up together. They were so young then - only eighteen years old - but now they were twenty-three and everything around them had changed so quickly.
They didn't know how long they'd been here now - three or four years perhaps - but in that time everything was different than how it once was before they came here: they'd left their parents behind (and never heard from them again), their food stores were nearly depleted (and almost all of their tools were destroyed), and most importantly, Bosco's mind had started to drift away from him after many experiments went wrong over the past year. His mind began to travel sideways out of reality and into places unknown; his inventions got stranger and stranger until eventually, he wasn't making anything useful anymore; he was just playing around with metal and machines aimlessly until one day he showed Ina what he called a time and space machine that would allow them to travel through both time and space. But Ina didn't believe him - not like she used to - because she knew that if this thing actually worked, then there would be enormous consequences for them both if it malfunctioned or broke down while either of them were inside it!
The island itself was beautiful and covered with lush rainforests that hid many secrets: ancient ruins hidden within thick brush, monstrous creatures lurking in bushes ready to attack unsuspecting hikers, tribes of natives living deep within the rainforests who avoided outsiders at all costs (the natives scared Bosco terribly whenever they crossed paths; he would hide behind trees shaking in fear while Ina tried to explain who they were). The island was huge too: much bigger than anyone had ever seen before; mountains rose up high into the sky; shorelines stretched out in every direction; entire tectonic plates lay exposed along miles-long coastlines; volcanoes spewed lava into oceans that raged up against rocky cliffs hundreds of feet high; cliffs that themselves reached hundreds of feet into the air towering over valleys below filled with lush green vegetation bursting with life from every nook and cranny of every leafy tree growing in abundance everywhere else on earth, except for where Bosco lived away from society under an intense sun that burned down upon him day after day until his white hair turned brown (at least, according to Ina who visited him often during those hours when his mind seemed sane). The island even had its own orbit around a distant star every six months or so (though some other force kept this planet moving through space around its star despite not having any moons) which meant there were seasons here!
