"I need to pee."

"Pee in the corner over there. There's already a pile of shit there, so no one will notice if you add your own," said Jonah.

Doug grumbled as he walked to the corner and pulled down his trousers. He looked around at the others as he urinated. "This is ridiculous! At our age, we should be in bed!"

"We can't go back home. Look what happened to Jeffrey," said Britney. "The Christians killed him on a cross for being gay! It was horrible."

"Yeah, I know, but I'm old! I won't last long if we don't find shelter soon." Doug finished urinating and wiped himself. He pulled up his trousers and went over to his rucksack. "Why did we leave? I thought things were going so well with us."

"I think it was Jonah's fault," said Britney. "He started to get weird after he accidentally killed that cat." She turned to Jonah. "Why did you do that?"

Jonah shrugged. "It was just a cat." His eyes were glassy and distant, as they had been ever since he killed the cat and ate its heart out in front of their landlord's apartment door. The landlord had run outside screaming when he opened it, and then ran back inside with a sword and chased them away from his house and yard. Fortunately, they'd been able to find an abandoned shack near the dock where they could stay for now, but Doug was right - they couldn't stay here forever, especially after winter came. If they didn't find somewhere warm soon, Doug might die of pneumonia or something. Or maybe Jonah would kill him for being annoying first, which would probably be for the best anyway.

"You're not supposed to eat cats!" Britney said angrily. "They're people too!"

"It wasn't a person," said Jonah dismissively. He began rummaging through Doug's rucksack; he needed a drink after all this walking today, but there was nothing in here except some moldy bread and some rocks that looked like boogers. Ugh! Why did Doug even bring rocks? Were they going to throw them at people who annoyed him? What kind of moron packed rocks? He tossed them aside and finally found the water skin he'd left there yesterday afternoon. He took a swig of water and sighed with relief as it slid down his throat like honey on ice cream on a hot day in July - cold food after hot food! It almost made him feel happy, except that Doug was still standing there being annoying, so instead he just felt irritated again. "People are animals too," he said in reply to Britney's statement about cats being people too; she'd taught all her students at school that dogs were people too back before she died fifty years ago during the Black Plague epidemic that wiped out half their generation of teachers in the Western World - she'd had to give lesson plans about how people could also be animals too because she couldn't find replacements for her classes anymore due to all the teachers dying off one by one in quick succession until only she was left teaching grade school kids like herself who were lucky enough not to have caught the plague yet by hiding out in their houses while living on starvation rations that consisted of nothing more than bread and water while hoping that God would save them somehow until someone finally came along with medicine to put an end to it all once and for all...but some kids had gotten infected anyway before they could be cured; thankfully Noah hadn't been one of them...or had he? Who knew? Time blurred together after death sometimes; it was difficult even now for her to remember what year it was - only that she had lost most of her teeth three hundred years ago because eating bread without any sort of sweetener was never good for anything other than making your jaw weaken over time until you couldn't chew anymore...and after chewing gum hadn't been invented yet either (when would someone invent gum?) nobody could afford dentures or implants - so chewing became more and more painful decade by decade until eventually she gave up altogether on eating anything more than yogurt without sugar added (thank goodness sugar existed) which allowed her teeth to remain intact even though her gums rotted away into nothing because what did gums matter when teeth couldn't be preserved any longer thanks to poor diet choices? And why bother putting dental work into dead bodies anyway when most surgeons up until now had been perfectly happy working on live patients only instead? Well...she didn't know why exactly...but perhaps she was thinking about herself too much again! This is what happened when you tried conversing with others who weren't dead yet; you kept wondering things about yourself instead of paying attention to what others were saying! That's why she preferred talking with Noah when no one else was around; talking with him never got boring! Oh well...better pay attention now before Doug started complaining again about needing somewhere warm to sleep tonight! It would be nice if they found somewhere soon so that they could stop moving around - although nothing stopped the world from moving around them even though they couldn't move themselves anymore...nothing except death...which eventually caught up with everyone no matter how hard they tried running away from it! Even Noah hadn't managed escaping death yet despite his best efforts at doing so - although maybe Noah wasn't trying to escape death anymore now that he had met Kevin! Maybe Kevin wouldn't let Noah die now - assuming Kevin still existed after two thousand years of being trapped underground when his boat sank with him inside it on a river without any means of escape nearby...except magic teleportation which didn't exist yet either because teleportation hadn't been invented yet either (why not?) which meant that if Kevin needed saving from drowning in his shipwrecked boat, only Jonah or Britney could do it via swimming underwater usually - but then again, who knew if Jonah or Britney could still swim underwater anymore either? Maybe neither one of them could swim anymore either? Maybe drowning themselves would be easier than drowning Kevin for sure! But then again, maybe not...possibly drowning alive wasn't fun either...so maybe better not take chances if other methods existed instead!
