Time, Greed, and Love

"You've got to be kidding me!" Dr. LeBlanc exclaimed gesturing wildly with his hands. "That's just ridiculous, how do you expect us to fix this mess we're in?"

Dr. Von Dantz looked down at her lover and sighed. She hated it when he got like this, so emotional. It would only get them killed if they didn't pull themselves together and focus on the task at hand.

"I don't know," she replied picking up a rock and chucking it at the nearest tree branch overhead. The branch snapped under the weight of its leaves and fell to the ground near their feet. That was right, they were in the woods.

"We've been here for half an hour and all you've done is throw rocks at trees," Dr. LeBlanc said kicking over a small fallen log. "We have work to do."

Dr. Von Dantz looked up from her spot on the forest floor and stared at him. "How? How do you propose that we make all these changes go away? We can't just wave our hands and say 'poof' it's gone." She stood up brushing off her pants and walked over to him placing a hand on his shoulder. "We have to think about what we did wrong before we can correct it."

"So, you think we did something wrong?" Dr. LeBlanc asked looking down into her eyes with a furrowed brow as he ran his fingers through her long blonde hair. He knew it could never be him, but there was something about her that drew him in every time he was around her, even after all this time together.

"Well, if you hadn't been so insistent on taking out both of our competitors I might not have had to do what I did," she replied watching a squirrel run up a tree above them and disappear into the branches above them. "Neither one of us would be here now if you managed to get that last round of funding."

"Yes, but look what it has gotten us," Dr. LeBlanc replied looking around at their surroundings again as he took her face in his hands and kissed her passionately on the lips, running his tongue between them as he pushed himself against her body close enough for them both to feel their hearts beating hard in their chests, almost like one heart beating in unison instead of two separate hearts, each racing for its own reasons. A sort of synchronicity between them that had developed over the years they'd been together working on this project together after their first failed attempt had resulted in nothing more than a few bruises, minor burns, and bed rest for several months while they recovered from their injuries sustained during their experiment gone awry when they tried to use an explosive device turned time machine on themselves to try to transport themselves back before they started building it so they could prevent any mishaps that could lead to future mistakes or accidents during construction but ended up causing bigger problems than anything else by sending them forward in time five hundred years instead of backwards from where they were supposed to end up in the past making things worse than ever before without any of those future mistakes corrected resulting in three hundred years worth of damage from those decisions made by them five hundred years ago thinking everything would turn out fine without anyone noticing or caring until now so many years later when scientists from their present were trying to fix those mistakes once and for all but finding out there was no way to fix things that far back in the past because whatever happened there in the past had already happened too far ago for anyone living now to change so instead they'd have to stay there pretending like nothing was wrong while trying desperately not to make things worse once more as they stayed there longer than they wanted while trying desperately not repeat those same mistakes again while also trying desperately not fall further in love with each other because if they did then time would take away another man she loved again leaving her alone once more alone with only memories of both men who she still loved dearly because no matter how much she hated herself for making stupid choices she couldn't help loving either one of them who meant more to her than anything else or anyone else because sometimes logic isn't always enough when your heart speaks louder than your brain can understand or want which is why she always ends up back with him no matter how many times he hurts her or vice versa always telling herself 'this will be different this time' but never really believing it because history does repeat itself after all just with different faces but usually for similar reasons making people turn evil or good depending on where their heart falls on the spectrum so whichever side wins usually wins big with no middle ground available during these heated battles raging within most people's hearts forcing them into corners where their mind can only see one way out so when life gives you lemons you make lemonade knowing full well that sooner or later life will give you some lemons again as someone always makes sure not everyone gets a fair share of happiness when life is distributed unequally like most things are distributed nowadays which is why people hate rich people because everyone thinks everyone should win but obviously that doesn't happen because someone has got to lose otherwise they wouldn't call it gambling after all because luck doesn't exist and people who use luck as an excuse are idiots who don't understand math or probability which is why Drs.
