Kachiki's Midnight Fight
·
Published 2/4/2023Kachiki, an ambitious African student, must battle evil spirits in her uncle's cursed house to survive one night and get out alive, or face uncertainty beyond her dread.
"Okay, okay, I get it." I muttered to myself as I walked through the forest. It was getting dark and I needed to find shelter soon. I'd lost my way earlier in the day and wasn't sure where I was anymore. I looked up at the sky and tried to discern which direction I should head in when I heard a twig snap behind me.
I jumped in fright and turned around quickly, wondering if it was just an animal in the forest. I relaxed a little when I saw a familiar figure leaning against a tree.
"Uncle?" I called out, walking towards him with a smile on my face. He wasn't that old and he didn't walk with a limp, so for a second I wondered if my mind was playing tricks on me. I reached him and stopped, looking at him with confusion. The person standing in front of me didn't look anything like my uncle. He was tall, very tall, and slim. There were no signs of age or wrinkles anywhere on his face. He was bald and had a scar running down the side of his face. I looked at him closer and saw that the scar was actually a tattoo. I looked up into his eyes and my jaw dropped. They were pure black, with no whites at all. I stared at him in horror.
"What's wrong, my dear?" he asked in a soft voice, reaching out and stroking my face with his fingers. I shuddered and tried to move away from him, but I was frozen to the spot.
"How- how can you be my Uncle? You look like a stranger." I stuttered. The man smiled and took a step closer to me.
"Oh, you know, I've always wanted to visit the continent of Africa. I've always heard it's beautiful here." he said, still smiling at me. My heart started to beat faster and I felt like I couldn't breathe. He took another step towards me and I finally found the strength to move away from him.
"Who are you?!" I yelled, backing away from him. He smirked and took a few steps towards me, then suddenly disappeared into thin air. I screamed in fear and ran towards a tree, pressing myself against it and trying to catch my breath. I tried to stay calm, but I knew that I couldn't stay in the forest overnight. I closed my eyes and tried to think of somewhere safe I could go to. Suddenly, I remembered the house I was staying at. It was an old, run down place and I didn't know why my Uncle had chosen it, but I knew it was the only place I could go. I opened my eyes and began to walk back in the direction I came from. I felt a presence watching me and I started to feel scared and paranoid. I tried to push these feelings aside and walk as fast as I could. I had almost reached the house when I heard a loud growl behind me. I turned around and saw a huge wolf staring at me. I looked around me, realizing that there was nowhere to hide or escape to.
"Please don't hurt me." I whispered, holding my arms up in front of my face. The wolf growled again and started walking towards me. I looked at the house and then back at the wolf and knew that I didn't have much time to make a decision. I closed my eyes and started to pray, when I heard a loud thud behind me. I opened my eyes and saw that the wolf was lying dead on the ground with a bloody wound on its leg. I looked around for whoever had saved me, only to find myself alone in the forest. I looked at the wolf and realized that it was probably the same wolf that had killed my uncle. I started to cry and fell to my knees. I was alone in a foreign country and I didn't know what to do or who I could trust. I decided to face my fears and head back to the house, where I would wait for morning and then find a way to get home. When I got to the house, I went inside and locked the door behind me. I looked around the house, noticing that everything seemed to be covered in dust, as if no one had lived there for years. I went to the kitchen and tried to find something to eat, but all the cupboards were empty. I sighed, wondering why my uncle didn't supply me with any food. I walked over to the fridge and opened it, only to find a dead body inside. I screamed and ran out of the kitchen and up the stairs, locking myself in my room. I sat on my bed, feeling hopeless and began to cry again.
"What do I do?" I asked myself, wiping my tears away. I heard a noise behind me and I turned around, expecting to see some kind of creature in the room with me. I was surprised to see that there was nothing there. I stood up and started to walk around the room, looking for any signs of a creature that might want to harm me. I was about to give up when I saw a small gap between the wall and the floor. I knelt down and pulled the floorboard away, revealing a hidden passageway. I glanced over at the door and decided to take a chance. I crawled into the passageway, closing the floorboard behind me and hoping that I wouldn't get trapped down here. I continued crawling along the tunnel and found myself in a small room with a window. I crawled over to the window and peered outside. I couldn't believe what I saw. I was standing in a cemetery! I looked around and noticed a path leading towards the main gate. I climbed out of the window and started walking down the path. I was halfway to the gate when I felt a presence behind me. I turned around and saw a man standing in the middle of the path.
