Erm, so, um.

"So, I was thinking maybe we should make some new Popsicles." Evander said, licking his lips and sitting down on the bed next to Miranda.

"New Popsicles?" Miranda asked. "Why would we need to make new ones? We just made those three for Captain Jinx. Remember?"

"Yeah," said Evander, "but those didn't have any flavour at all!" He stroked his whiskers as he thought of the bland sweets they had given them. "I mean, you could barely taste anything! Wasn't that one supposed to be cherry? It was just white!" He mumbled under his breath his thoughts on the other two they gave them - a dull blue colour that tasted like nothing at all and a green one that tasted of grass and weeds. "Besides... I kinda told him they were special." He scratched the top of his head, wondering if he'd made a mistake by telling their boss they were special.

Miranda was silent a moment and then said, "Maybe he just doesn't like sweets?" She shrugged her shoulders as she put down the book she had been reading before Evander had interrupted her.

Evander frowned and replied, "But why would you have pirates who don't like sweets? That's silly. Pirates love sweets! You know Captain Jinx loves sweets."

"Well..." Miranda began slowly, not sure what she could say about their boss's eating habits. She leaned over to pat her mate's shoulder consolingly and asked gently, "Do you think we made them wrong or something?"

Evander pouted and crossed his arms over his chest as he turned his gaze away from her worried face. "I dunno," he muttered quietly. "I'm not sure." He sighed and sank into a chair in front of the dresser mirror where Miranda sat brushing her tail absently behind him as she gazed at him with concern in her brown eyes. "You know," he said after a moment's reflection on their situation, turning to look up at her with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips, "the only thing I remember liking was your strawberry one." He grinned at her knowingly as he added playfully, "Maybe I should make the next one strawberry flavoured?"

Miranda laughed lightly and reached out to ruffle his fur affectionately before standing up off the bed and walking over to sit next to him on the chair in front of the mirror. Her long tail brushed against his legs as she purred softly, leaning back against him with a happy sigh as she nuzzled him lovingly with her nose and murmured teasingly: "Oh no! What will Captain Jinx do if you make new flavours? What if it turns out bad like your last batch? Think about it! We'll lose our heads! Or worse..." She glanced sideways at him mischievously through half-lidded eyes as she added suggestively: "...I might want to take yours!" She winked saucily at him while gently running her sharp claws playfully along his leg in an idle scratching motion. Then she giggled girlishly before reaching over to kiss him softly between the ears while adding in an airy tone: "Oh dear... Let's hope it doesn't come to that!"

Evander smiled despite himself at her playful banter as he felt himself beginning to blush under her gentle caresses although he couldn't help but wonder what she'd meant by 'worse'. He hoped she wouldn't take his head or worse... And then he wondered what exactly it meant when cats said that someone 'might want' something instead of saying they wanted it? Surely it wasn't anything bad... Was it? He shook off these thoughts from his mind as he tried hard not to dwell too much on such matters but instead focused on how happy he felt being around Miranda like this - how nice it was having someone to talk with who understood him so well and who seemed willing to follow him everywhere... And he smiled happily again as he whispered lovingly into her ear: "Thank you for being here for me!"

Miranda tilted her head to the side, nuzzling against Evander's cheek with a warm smile. "Of course, my love. I will always be here for you, through thick and thin," she whispered, her voice filled with unwavering devotion.

Evander's heart swelled with affection for her. It was moments like these that made him realize how lucky he was to have found such a caring and understanding mate. He couldn't help but feel a surge of determination to make things right with the Popsicles for Captain Jinx. After all, the satisfaction of their boss was of utmost importance.

With newfound motivation, Evander gently untangled himself from Miranda's embrace and stood up from the chair. "I think you're onto something," he said with a determined glint in his eyes. "We need to experiment with new flavors and perfect the art of Popsicle-making." He walked to their small countertop, where the remnants of their previous attempts lay discarded in the trash. "Captain Jinx deserves nothing but the finest of treats, and we will not rest until we give it to him."

Miranda stood beside him, her tail swishing with excitement. "I knew you would come up with something!" she exclaimed, her voice tinged with admiration. "We will make the most delectable Popsicles the world has ever tasted!"

Together, they brainstormed ideas for different flavors, discussing combinations that might suit Captain Jinx's preferences. Evander's mind was buzzing with inspiration, fueled by his desire to bring joy to their boss and prove themselves as skilled confectioners. They scribbled down their ideas on a notepad, giggling and laughing as they indulged in their creative process.

Days turned into weeks, and their kitchen became a laboratory filled with pots, pans, and an array of ingredients. Evander and Miranda experimented tirelessly, tweaking measurements and perfecting recipes. The aroma of freshly blended fruits and sweet syrups filled the air as they poured their concoctions into molds, eagerly waiting for the final results.

Their determination paid off. The first try at a strawberry Popsicle tasted heavenly – a burst of ripe, juicy strawberries that danced on the taste buds. With beaming smiles, Evander and Miranda presented their creation to Captain Jinx, who eagerly took a bite. His eyes widened in delight, and he practically purred with satisfaction.

"These are extraordinary!" Captain Jinx exclaimed with his mouth still filled with the strawberry Popsicle. "I can't remember the last time I've tasted something so divine. You two have truly outdone yourselves!"

Evander and Miranda exchanged glances, their hearts soaring with pride. They had succeeded in fulfilling their goal, and in doing so, they had made their captain blissfully happy.

As word of their amazing Popsicles spread throughout the pirate crew, a surge of excitement rippled through the ship. Soon, they were inundated with requests from Captain Jinx's crewmates, eager to savor the delectable treats for themselves. Evander and Miranda found themselves working day and night to keep up with the demand, their kitchen transformed into a bustling production line. They laughed, they baked, and they frolicked, their bond growing stronger with every batch they sold.

In the midst of their newfound success, Evander found himself glancing at Miranda more frequently, his heart stirring with affection at the sight of her. He couldn't help but wonder, was he ready to take their relationship to the next level?

Prompt:

One evening, as Evander and Miranda were cleaning up after a long day in the kitchen, Evander found himself staring at a small box hidden away behind the stove. He felt a tug of curiosity and knew he couldn't resist the urge to discover its contents. What will he find inside, and how will it change their lives forever?
