Tito Martinez had always been a dreamer. As a kid, he would stare out of his bedroom window and imagine all the places he would go when he grew up. He was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, but he had never really seen it. His parents worked multiple jobs just to make ends meet, so Tito spent most of his time at home or at school.

When Tito turned eighteen, he decided that it was time for him to start living his dreams. He dropped out of high school and got a job as a busboy on the Strip. He worked long hours for little pay, but he didn’t mind because it meant that he could finally see the city that had always been just out of reach.

Tito quickly fell in love with the bright lights and bustling energy of the Strip. He loved watching the tourists as they walked by, their faces filled with wonder and excitement. He loved listening to the sounds of the slot machines and the laughter coming from the nightclubs. Most of all, though, he loved imagining what it would be like to be one of them.

One night, while Tito was taking out the trash behind the casino where he worked, he overheard two men talking. They were standing just around the corner from where Tito was standing, so they didn’t see him.

“I can’t believe it,” one man said to the other. “The boss wants me to be his best man.”

“Why is that such a big deal?” the other man asked.

“Because,” the first man replied. “He’s not just any boss. He’s Tony ‘The Snake’ Ricci.”

Tito felt a shiver run down his spine when he heard that name. Tony Ricci was one of the most powerful men in Las Vegas. He owned several casinos on the Strip and was rumored to have ties to organized crime.

As Tito listened, he heard the first man say, “The boss is going to make me a made man. Can you believe it? I’m gonna be a part of the family.”

Tito couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He had always dreamed of being a part of something bigger than himself, and now it seemed like that dream might actually come true.

After the two men went back inside, Tito stood there for a moment, lost in thought. Then he made up his mind. He was going to find Tony Ricci and ask him to make him a part of his family.

Tito knew that finding Tony Ricci wouldn’t be easy, but he was determined. He spent every free moment he had searching for information about the mob boss. He read newspaper articles and watched news reports. He even went to the library and checked out books on organized crime.

Finally, after weeks of searching, Tito found what he was looking for: an address. It was for a house in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Las Vegas.

Tito knew that just showing up at Tony Ricci’s house unannounced probably wasn’t the best idea, but he didn’t know how else to get in touch with him. So, one day after work, Tito drove to the address.

When Tito pulled up outside of the house, his heart started pounding in his chest. The house was huge and surrounded by a high brick wall topped with barbed wire. There were security cameras on every corner and two large men standing guard at the front gate.

Tito sat in his car for a minute, wondering if maybe this was all just too crazy. But then he thought about all those dreams he used to have as a kid and how they always seemed just out of reach. This could be his chance to finally grab hold of one of those dreams.

With that thought in mind, Tito got out of his car and walked up to the front gate. The two men standing guard crossed their arms over their chests and glared at him.

“What do you want?” one of them asked.

“I need to see Tony Ricci,” Tito said, trying to sound confident.

The two men looked at each other and then burst out laughing. “You and everyone else, kid,” one of them said.

“Yeah, why don’t you come back when you’ve got a million dollars in your pocket?” the other one added.

Tito felt his face grow hot with anger. He knew that they were right; he didn’t have any money or power or influence. But he also knew that he couldn’t just give up now.

“I don’t have a million dollars,” Tito said. “But I’m willing to work for it.”

The two men stopped laughing and looked at Tito in surprise. “What did you say?”

“I said I’m willing to work for it,” Tito repeated. “I’ll do anything, whatever it takes, to prove myself to Mr. Ricci.”

The two men exchanged another look, this one more serious than the last. Then one of them nodded and reached for the intercom on the wall next to the gate.

“I’ll see if the boss is interested in what you’ve got to offer,” he said.

Tito waited nervously while the man spoke into the intercom. After a few minutes, he heard a voice on the other end say, “Send him in.”

One of the guards opened the gate and motioned for Tito to follow him inside. As they walked up to the house, Tito couldn’t help but feel like he was walking into his future.

When they reached the front door, one of the guards knocked twice and then opened it. He motioned for Tito to go inside.

As Tito stepped into Tony Ricci’s house, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. The entryway was filled with expensive-looking furniture and artwork. There were crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and a grand staircase leading up to the second floor.

Tito followed one of the guards down a long hallway and into a large study. Tony Ricci was sitting behind a massive mahogany desk, talking on the phone.

When he saw Tito, he held up one finger in a gesture that said, “Just a minute.” Then he continued his conversation as if Tito wasn’t even there.

Tito stood by the door, shifting nervously from foot to foot while he waited for Tony Ricci to finish his call. After what felt like an eternity, Tony finally hung up the phone and looked at Tito.

“What’s your name?” he asked.

“Tito Martinez,” Tito replied.

Tony nodded thoughtfully. “So you want to be part of my family?”

“Yes,” Tito said without hesitation. “More than anything.”

Tony leaned back in his chair and studied Tito for a moment. Then he said, “I like your spirit, kid. But I don’t just let anyone into my family. You’ve got to prove yourself first.”

Tito felt his heart sink at those words. He had come so far and worked so hard just to get here; he didn’t know if he had anything left to give.

But then Tony smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I’m not going to make you do anything crazy like whack someone or steal something. I’ve got plenty of guys who can do that kind of work.”

Tito let out a sigh of relief.

“No,” Tony continued. “What I need is someone I can trust. Someone who can keep their mouth shut and follow orders no matter what.”

“I can do that,” Tito said eagerly.

“We’ll see,” Tony said with a smile. “I’m going to give you a job, and if you do it well, then we’ll talk about making you a part of my family.”

Tito nodded eagerly. He didn’t know what the job was yet, but he knew that he would do whatever it took to prove himself to Tony Ricci.

Over the next few months, Tito worked for Tony Ricci doing odd jobs around the house and running errands. It wasn’t glamorous work, but Tito didn’t mind. He was just happy to be a part of something bigger than himself.

Then one day, Tony called Tito into his study and said, “I’ve been watching you, Tito, and I think you’re ready for your first real assignment.”

Tito felt a surge of excitement at those words. This was it; this was his chance to finally prove himself.

Tony handed Tito an envelope and said, “Inside this envelope is the name of a man who owes me money. Your job is to find him and collect what he owes.”

Tito nodded eagerly and took the envelope from Tony. Then he turned to leave.

“Oh,” Tony added as an afterthought. “And try not to get caught.”

Tito’s heart skipped a beat at those words. He had never
