The room was dark; the lamp on the bedside table had gone out several hours ago. The dim light of the moon cast shadows across the figure of a man lying in bed. He was wearing blue pajamas and was covered with a blanket that was stained with what appeared to be black ink. As he lay there, another shadow passed by the window, then another, and another. Soon, there were dozens of them, until it seemed like even the room itself was filled with them. They were everywhere - hanging from the ceiling, hiding in the shadows, even standing right next to him. Suddenly, they all jumped on top of him and pinned him down to his bed.

"Shoo! Get off me!" he cried as he struggled to break free from their grasp. "Get away from me, you filthy animals!" He kept thrashing about as he tried desperately to get them off him. When suddenly, one of them spoke to him: "What are you doing? What's wrong?"

The man stopped struggling as he looked up at the creature that had asked him this question. Its body was covered with short grey hair and it had two small horns on its head that made it look kind of like a goat. It had four legs and two arms and a tail and two sharp fangs protruding from its mouth that it occasionally used to chew on things like rocks or wood or whatever else it could find outside. The man stared at it blankly for a moment before answering: "I'm trying to get you off me."

"Why would you want us off?" replied the creature confusedly. "You sent us here."

"No I didn't," said the man angrily as he turned away from it and tried to pull himself up using his arms so that he could sit up straight again. He managed to turn himself around so that his back faced the creature now and sat upright against his pillow so that he could face it when talking to it better.

"Yes you did," said the creature in disagreement as it hopped onto his bedside table so that it could look down at him instead of having to peer over his head every time it wanted to speak to him directly. "You're our master."

The man fell silent for a moment before replying: "I don't remember sending you here… Where are we?"

"You're in your bedroom," replied the creature matter-of-factly as if everyone should know basic stuff like this already. "And I'm in my cage."

Suddenly, everything came flooding back into the man's mind and he remembered how he got here: He had fallen asleep maybe thirty minutes ago after having a long day at work investigating some strange cases in town - there were reports of people being thrown through windows and out houses by some unknown force - but now suddenly he found himself lying on top of his bed while being attacked by these strange creatures that claimed they were his pets. With fear in his voice, he shouted: "Get away from me!" He balled up his fist but stopped when he saw that this action only made three of the creatures jump up excitedly and run towards him with open arms ready for him to pet them like dogs do when someone calls their name out happily; one even started panting happily as well thinking this meant he was going pet her soon. Being intimidated by them all crowded around him like this - some were gnawing on his blanket while others were simply staring at him curiously with no regard for whether they might be bothering him or not - made him feel embarrassed so he lowered his hand slowly while looking away from them while muttering angrily under his breath: "Get away from me… Get away…" The creatures all stayed still when they heard this except one who asked: "Why would you want us off? You sent us here." The man looked back at this creature who repeated its statement; however, this time there was something different about how it sounded: It sounded less sure about what it was saying than before which caused the man's curiosity to be piqued enough for him to ask:

"Did I?" He paused briefly before repeating himself more confidently as if trying to convince himself more than anything else: "Did I send you here?"

The creature shifted on the bedside table, its small horns glinting in the moonlight. "Yes, you did," it replied with a tinge of uncertainty. "You summoned us, called us forth from the depths of your subconscious."

The man's eyes widened with disbelief. "Summoned? But... how? I don't remember doing anything like that."

The creature's tone softened, almost sympathetic. "Sometimes, the mind can perform extraordinary feats without the conscious awareness of the individual. Your desire for companionship, for connection, must have materialized in the form of us."

The man's brows furrowed as he tried to grasp the implications of what the creature was saying. "So... you're saying I created you? But why? And why can't I remember any of it?"

The creature cocked its head to the side, its eyes gleaming with ancient wisdom. "Ah, the mysteries of the human psyche. Your mind is a labyrinth, riddled with hidden depths and forgotten corners. It is not uncommon for such summonings to occur without conscious recollection. As for why... perhaps you longed for creatures that would only answer to you, that would provide solace and companionship without judgment."

"But this is too surreal," the man protested, gesturing at the cluster of creatures surrounding him. "I never wanted this. I never asked for any of it."

The creature's expression softened, displaying a hint of melancholy. "Sometimes, the wishes we harbor within our hearts are not the ones we dare admit to ourselves. Deep down, you desired connection, even if you were unaware of it. And so, we came into existence, your unwavering companions, seeking nothing more than to offer solace and understanding."

The man's anger began to wane, replaced by a sense of bewilderment. He looked at the creatures that held him down—their eyes, filled with curiosity and unwavering loyalty—and a flicker of compassion stirred within him. "I... I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. But this is overwhelming. How can I understand all of this?"

The creature hopped down from the bedside table, landing gently on the man's shoulder. "Understanding takes time, my master. But if you open your heart to us, we will guide you through the labyrinth of your mind. We shall be your companions, your guardians, and together, we shall traverse the depths of your subconscious, uncovering hidden desires and illuminating forgotten dreams."

The man regarded the creature on his shoulder, its gentle touch calming his racing thoughts. "Perhaps... perhaps I can learn to accept this new reality," he murmured, his voice filled with newfound hope. "But what should I call you?"

The creature's face lit up with joy, its fangs peeping from beneath its small lips. "We are the Lumicorns, created from the very essence of light and shadow. You may call me Lumi."

As Lumi introduced itself, the other creatures that had been clinging to the man's bed shuffled closer, their eyes shining with anticipation. They too had names, unique in their own way, waiting for the man to discover them.

And so, with a new understanding dawning upon him, the man took a deep breath, ready to embark on an extraordinary journey through the recesses of his own mind, guided by the Lumicorns who had vowed to be his steadfast companions. From that moment forward, he would no longer push them away, but rather embrace the magic they brought into his life—a magic born from his deepest desires and his longing for connection. Together, they would navigate the wonders and perils of his subconscious, shining light on truths and forging a bond that could endure any obstacle in their path.

And so, the room that was once filled with darkness and fear now glowed with a soft luminescence, as the Lumicorns danced in joy, knowing they had found a master who, in turn, had found the courage to embrace his own inner light.
