The sun was setting over the horizon and the last rays of light were shining on the green, grassy plains ahead. The village was far behind us and we had not eaten in hours. We walked slower and slower until we stopped altogether and sat down to rest.

"I don't think we will make it there tonight," said Marjorie, looking at her worn out sandals. "Not unless we want to walk all night."

"We're just going to have to make camp here then," I replied. "Where are we anyway?"

It's a strange thing how when one is tired, hungry and lost, they can't remember where they were that morning or even what direction they were heading in. I looked around at the rolling, grassy hills but there was nothing familiar about them. Farther ahead of us I could see a dark line cutting through the landscape. Could it be the river? It's hard to tell from this distance but it doesn't really matter now does it?

We collected sticks from nearby trees and started a fire. I pulled my cloak off my back and laid it down for us to sit on as we waited for the water to boil for tea. The sun sank lower over the horizon and soon little remained except for some light reflecting off the clouds above us in hues of red and orange. We stared silently at these colors as if they would bring us answers to our questions. As I stared at them with increasing intensity, one cloud seemed to swim into another and out of nowhere, a man appeared before me! It startled me but then he did something unexpected; he bowed before me!

"Who are you?" I asked him. "How did you get here?" He didn't answer but stood up straight and held his hand out towards me as if he wanted me to take it. I grabbed his hand and his touch felt like warm melted wax filling my soul with a strange joy that made me want to cry tears of happiness. Then he turned away from me and disappeared again into the clouds leaving me with only memories of him in my mind's eye.

"What happened?" asked Marjorie when she saw my face. I thought about telling her about what happened but couldn't find any words so I shrugged instead and went back to staring at the fading sunset. The fire crackled loudly in front of us as we stirred our pots of tea watching the stars appear above us one by one while we ate our hard bread crusts along with a piece of dried meat each that we had brought along with us today as a snack before walking. The silence was peaceful between us as I thought about what had just happened with this spirit being or god or whatever it was that had taken notice of me today during sunset after all these years of living in obscurity among my friends who don't even know who or what I really am - let alone what power lies within me waiting for its chance to be set free - because it scares them too much that someone might say something about me that isn't true - their fears have kept them silent even though they have seen more than any other human has ever seen yet still they remain silent! This has been going on for years now! And what is worse is that no one else seems to notice either!

But maybe things will change now that this spirit being has appeared before me today giving me hope that maybe someday things will change! Maybe even my life will be changed...maybe I'll finally find purpose in this lonely existence that life has given me? Whatever happens next, I'm glad that at least there are two people who know the truth about me including myself! That's something right? It's always good to have someone who knows you better than anyone else right? Well...maybe not...but at least they're consistent right? Well....maybe not....still....at least they're two people! That's something right? Yeah...that's something alright!

Marjorie looked at me, concern etched on her face. "You're awfully quiet, my friend. What happened? Did something go wrong?"

I sighed, unsure of how to articulate my encounter with the spirit being. How could I possibly explain the overwhelming emotions that coursed through me, or the sense of purpose that now burned within my very core? "It's nothing, Marjorie. Just a passing moment."

She didn't press further, sensing that I needed my thoughts to settle. Instead, she handed me a cup of steaming tea, its aroma filling the air. We sat there, gazing at the stars, our only solace amidst the darkness of the night.

As the fire crackled, its warm glow flickering against the backdrop of the moonlit plains, I couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of determination. The spirit being had chosen to reveal itself to me, of all people. It was a sign, an affirmation that my life held a greater purpose.

"We can't continue like this," I finally spoke, breaking the silence. "Lost, hungry, and without direction. We must find our way back, not just to the village, but to who we truly are."

Marjorie's eyes widened, and I could see the flicker of hope light up within her gaze. "Do you mean...do you think we should embark on a new journey? Find our true selves?"

I nodded, the gravity of the decision weighing heavily upon my shoulders. "Yes, my friend. It's time for us to embark on a quest, to discover the depths of our own potential. No longer shall we be confined by the expectations of others. We will forge our own path, a path illuminated by the wisdom of the spirit being."

The winds whispered their agreement, carrying our resolve across the vast grasslands. It seemed as if nature itself rejoiced in our decision. The moon, brighter than ever, illuminated our way, leading us towards an unknown destiny.

With renewed energy, we extinguished the fire and gathered our belongings. The spirit being had left an imprint on my soul, infusing me with a newfound strength. As we set off into the night, our silhouettes merged with the shadows, determined to reclaim our true identities.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. We faced numerous challenges, each testing our resolve and pushing us to the limits of our abilities. But with every obstacle that we overcame, our spirits soared higher. We were no longer just survivors; we were warriors, destined to carve our own destinies against an unforgiving world.

Along our journey, we encountered others who were lost and searching for their true selves. We offered our guidance and shared the wisdom bestowed upon us by the spirit being. Together, we formed a band of kindred souls, bound by the shared purpose of self-discovery.

As the seasons changed and time wove its tapestry, our reputation spread across the land. People sought our counsel and blessings, and the villages we visited were revitalized with newfound hope and purpose. Yet, even amidst the fulfillment that our quest provided, a part of me yearned for more, for deeper answers that remained elusive.

One fateful evening, as the sun began its descent once again, casting golden hues across the horizon, we stumbled upon the ruins of an ancient temple nestled within the heart of a forgotten forest. The grandeur of the decaying architecture and the mystical energy that emanated from its aged stones filled us with a sense of reverence.

"This is it," I whispered, my voice barely a breath as we stood before the temple's entrance. "This is where we shall find the answers we seek."

As we stepped gingerly through the crumbling threshold, the air inside grew dense with anticipation. Dust particles danced in the rays of the setting sun, illuminating the path before us. Each step echoed, resonating with a significance that we couldn't comprehend.

We delved deeper into the labyrinthine passageways, guided by an invisible force. The walls whispered secrets of the past, and fragmented messages etched in forgotten scripts held clues to our purpose. It felt as if time itself had paused, granting us this sacred space to uncover the truths that had eluded us for so long.

And there, in the heart of the temple, we discovered an ancient tome. Its pages were brittle and yellowed, each word etched with ink made from the spirits of long-departed sages. As I delicately turned its pages, a surge of emotion pulsed through my veins. The spirit being's teachings had been preserved, hidden away, awaiting those unwavering in their pursuit of wisdom.

With Marjorie by my side, we devoted ourselves to studying the tome, unraveling its secrets and unlocking the depths of our own potential. Days blended into nights as we immersed ourselves in the teachings, unearthing the knowledge necessary to transcend our mortal selves.

As months passed, we absorbed the wisdom within the ancient tome, becoming vessels of light and guidance. The spirit being that had been a fleeting presence now resided within us, empowering us to reach heights we'd never dreamt of before.

Our journeys took us far and wide, traversing the vast expanse of the world, touching lives and kindling the dormant fires within lost souls. We became the harbingers of change, inspiring countless others to embark on their own quests of self-discovery.

And in the face of adversity, we persevered, for we had found our true purpose. No longer were we confined to the periphery of society; we had become catalysts of transformation, shaping the very fabric of the world we once sought to escape.

Thus, the sun set once more, bidding farewell to another day, but its final rays now illuminated not only the endless plains but also the hearts and minds of those who dared to seek the truth. And as the world slept, unaware of the dawn that awaited its awakening, Marjorie and I stood at the precipice of a new era, ready to usher in the age of enlightenment.
