"Hurry up!" yelled Jared to the others. "We must get in front of him."

"I'm going as fast as I can, you big hulk!" retorted Adelina.

"Now, now," said the pudgy man quietly, "no need for name calling. We are all friends here, are we not?"

"I've had it with your flirting! We must hurry!" Jared yelled again over his shoulder. The other two were catching up to him, but they were falling behind. They continued on through the forest that surrounded the small town. They had been traveling for days, not knowing where they would end up next. Just trying to stay ahead of their pursuer; Maxwell. He was a wizard who had been following them ever since they left their home. The three of them had no idea why he was following them or what his intentions were, but they knew that he meant them harm. Jared wished they could have learned more about him and his motives while they were still at home, but he wanted to be careful so he didn't lead Maxwell right to their secret hideout.

The trio had been traveling for hours now and were getting tired. They knew they couldn't afford to waste any time so they kept moving despite their fatigue. An hour later and the sun was starting to set; it would be dark soon and then Jared knew that Maxwell would try to sneak up on them in the darkness and attack them when they couldn't see him coming. He didn't want to give their enemy that chance so he knew that finding shelter was a priority. The town was up ahead and the sun was just about gone from the horizon when Jared saw it: a small inn tucked away in the woods just off of the main road into town. He remembered hearing about it being owned by some sort of family before he left home so he decided this would be their best bet for a place to stay while they figured out what they would do next.

They entered the inn and saw a man sitting at one of the tables reading a paper, while his wife stood behind the bar sweeping some dirt into one pile before looking back at them curiously. Jared approached her and she greeted him warmly before asking if she could help him with something or if she could answer any questions he might have about where they were or anything like that. She seemed nice enough but Jared wasn't sure yet if he could trust her; after all, this was an inn in a small town located deep in the woods far from civilization where anyone could stop by at any time who might be dangerous or otherwise undesirable for them to associate with.

Adelina approached her too and asked, "Is there anywhere we can rest here? It's been a long day."

"Yes," said Mrs. Fennimore as she looked over her shoulders before turning back around with a smile and replied excitedly, "Of course you can! There is only one room available right now though but you're welcome to share it if you'd like."

"Great! Thank you so much," said Adelina cheerfully as she turned back toward Jared and gestured for him to follow her upstairs so they could get settled in for the night before it got too late. They found their room at the top of the stairs next to what looked like another bathroom on one side of the hall and across from another door that seemed slightly open on the other side. They entered their room which was quite charmingly decorated with fresh flowers placed on each bedside table along with a bowl full of fruit on one side of the room while on the other side sat two desks with chairs placed neatly beside each other where Adelina took a seat while Jared closed the door behind him before approaching her cautiously.
