Carefree Glee: Lindsay's Mischief and Adventures of Triumph
·
Published 2/10/2023After sustaining a debilitating injury, a spirited and defiant cheerleader and her mischievous and impish caretaker embark on a rebellious and quixotic mission to demonstrate that disability is no disadvantage - no matter what their elders forbid.
The sun was shining as I made my way up the path to Lindsay's house. The thought of a visit to her always put a smile on my face. But today, it seemed to be brighter than normal.
"Salutations, young Branson." A voice called from behind me. I turned to see Steven go flying past me down the hill.
"Hey, slow down!" I shouted after him. "You'll break your neck!"
"I'm not going too fast! Can you believe it? The first day of school is finally here! I'm so excited!" He shouted back without even thinking about slowing down. "But now that I think about it... Why are we starting so early? That's not normal for this town!"
"I don't know, but there better be good food at the bonfire party tonight if we are going to start so early." I said laughing at his enthusiasm. "At least we don't have to work on a Tuesday anymore."
It had been almost two years since we had given up our jobs as fishermen and had started working with our families as pirates instead. It was supposed to be just a fun thing to do on the side until we got our land legs back after being at sea for so long, but then the whole pirate life sort of took off all over town and it was extremely difficult to try and keep our jobs as fishermen after that. Lindsay's family was invested in all kinds of businesses around town and she had tried everything she could think of to get us back into fishing, but after last year when she broke her arms and legs trying to jump off the top of a fence, her parents would hear nothing of it. I couldn't blame them though; they didn't want her getting hurt again and who could blame them? Luckily, the Pirates were willing to take us in and we were able to stay above water ever since. No more hard labor for us! We got all kinds of perks like staying out late drinking, goofing off on the beach and telling ghost stories. It was great! And man oh man did Lindsay love telling those ghost stories too!
The Sun was really bright today…but then again it always seemed that way whenever I saw Lindsay. She was waiting for me on her porch with a big smile on her face waiting for me with open arms like she always did when I arrived at her place. Her blonde hair cascading down over her shoulders gave her an angelic look that only added to the warmth that she radiated whenever she smiled at me like that. She was dressed in a white tank top with blue jeans that accentuated every one of her curves perfectly…but then again, whatever she wore always looked perfect on her.
