The Headlights' Revenge
·
Published 11/28/2023"Yo, that's the one, innit?"
"Yeah, bruv. That's the one. Proper beauty."
The two figures stood in the darkness, their hoods up and hands deep in their pockets. The light from the streetlamp cast long shadows across the empty car park.
"Reckon we can get it?"
"Course we can, bruv. Easy money."
They moved towards the car slowly, keeping low and checking their surroundings. The only sound was the distant hum of traffic on the motorway.
As they approached the car, its headlights suddenly flashed on and off. The two figures froze.
"What was that?"
"Dunno. Maybe it's got an alarm or something."
"Nah, man. No way this thing's got an alarm."
The car's engine roared to life and it revved loudly, causing both figures to jump back.
"Shit! It's alive!"
The driver's side door swung open and a figure stepped out of the car. He was tall and muscular with a shaved head and tattoos covering his arms.
"Oi! What do you think you're doing?"
The two figures turned to each other in panic.
"Run!"
They sprinted away from the car as fast as they could, disappearing into the darkness.
The man watched them go before shaking his head in disbelief.
"Fucking kids."
He climbed back into his car and pulled out his phone.
"Yeah, it's me again. They tried to take it but I scared 'em off... Yeah, I know... Alright then, see you soon."
He hung up and sat back in his seat as he waited for his contact to arrive.
A few minutes later, another car pulled up alongside him. The window rolled down to reveal a middle-aged man with greying hair and a suit that looked like it cost more than most people earned in a month.
"You sure this is worth my time?"
The man in the first car nodded.
"Trust me. It's worth it."
The two men got out of their cars and walked over to the Super mk4. The headlights illuminated the car park, casting an eerie glow on the surrounding area.
The middle-aged man whistled appreciatively.
"Nice. Very nice."
He pulled a set of keys out of his pocket and handed them to the other man.
"Here you go. All yours."
The man took the keys and smiled.
"Cheers, mate. You won't regret this."
As he climbed into his new car, the middle-aged man held out his hand.
"Five grand, remember? Cash."
The man in the Super mk4 nodded and reached into his pocket, pulling out a stack of banknotes.
"Here you go. Five grand, just like we agreed."
He handed over the money and watched as the middle-aged man counted it carefully before putting it in his pocket.
"Thanks for doing business with me. Enjoy your new ride."
With that, he got back into his car and drove away, leaving the man in the Super mk4 alone in the empty car park.
He sat in his new car for a moment, taking in its beauty. Then he turned on the engine and revved it loudly, a big grin on his face.
"Yeah! Proper beauty!"
As he drove away, leaving skid marks on the tarmac behind him, he couldn't help but feel like he was on top of the world.
