Nova had always felt different. Growing up in the orphanage, she was the only one who could make things happen just by thinking about them. She never thought much of it until the day she accidentally froze time.

It started as a normal day at the orphanage. The other kids were playing in the yard while Nova sat on a bench, reading a book. Suddenly, she heard a loud crash from inside the building. Without thinking, she rushed inside to see what had happened.

She found Mrs. Jenkins, the headmistress, standing in the middle of a pile of broken dishes.

"Oh no," Mrs. Jenkins sighed. "How am I ever going to clean this up?"

Before Nova could offer to help, everything around her froze. Mrs. Jenkins stood still with a dish in her hand, mid-shatter.

Confused, Nova looked around and realized that time had stopped. She walked over to Mrs. Jenkins and waved her hand in front of her face, but there was no response.

To her relief, Mrs. Jenkins blinked and looked at Nova.

"Did you see that?" Nova asked excitedly.

"See what?" Mrs. Jenkins replied with a puzzled look on her face.

Nova realized that no one else had noticed what had happened.

"Never mind," she said quickly, not wanting to get into trouble for using magic.

She helped Mrs. Jenkins clean up the dishes and went back outside with the other kids like nothing had happened.

But from that day forward, Nova couldn't stop thinking about what she had done. She spent every spare moment trying to control her newfound power over time.

One day while practicing in the woods behind the orphanage, Nova heard voices coming from a nearby clearing.

Peering through some bushes, she saw a group of rebels huddled together, planning their next move against the oppressive ruling class.

Nova recognized one of the rebels as Ethan, a boy she had met in town a few times. He was known for his charming smile and quick wit, but Nova could tell there was more to him than met the eye.

"I want to help," she said boldly.

The rebels looked at her skeptically, but Ethan smiled and said, "Welcome to the team."
