Kaikeyi's Altered Destiny
·
Published 4/19/2023When Kaikeyi, a brooding and courageous captain in the Indian navy, discovers the disarray her empire is in, she must risk her resources and relationships to save it, testing all ties of duty and strength as she pushes outside the boundaries to think up a new tactic.

“Advance!”
The oarsmen grit their teeth and pull harder. They had been at it for hours, and all they wanted was to row in the direction they wanted to go. But no, they were being pulled backwards by the current against them. Even with all their strength and determination, they couldn’t get anywhere in this ocean. The sun beat down on them mercilessly, and one of the men keeled over and fell into the water before he could be helped up again. He struggled back to his spot, but there was no way he would recover before long.
“Keep going! We are almost there!’ Captain Kaikeyi shouted, pointing ahead of her. In the distance she could see land, a welcome sight after days of being stuck at sea. “You can do it! Just a little more!”
The sailors looked at each other and nodded. They didn’t want to let their captain down, especially not when she had saved them only a month earlier from the King of Magadha who had imprisoned them for years without a word from anyone. They were grateful to her for saving them from that hellhole, but this was just too much for them to handle. They had been rowing like crazy for hours and they were already exhausted, but now they had to make it even further before they would get any rest.
As if to add insult to injury, a strong wind blew across their path. The men strained hard against it, pulling back as hard as they could with tears in their eyes, but the ship did not move an inch closer to land. It was as though someone was pushing against them with an invisible hand while another pushed against them with a gale force wind behind them. The men tried so hard that some started coughing up blood while others blacked out from exhaustion.
Suddenly out of nowhere, two disembodied hands grasped onto ropes that served as anchors for the ship in the ocean. The hands exerted immeasurable force on the ropes until every rope snapped, echoing a thunderous snap through the water, startling everyone aboard who mistakenly thought it originated from above their heads.
Kaikeyi turned around in shock, her eyes wide open as she observed the strange phenomenon occurring behind her vessel: two enormous sea creatures were swimming behind her ship, pulling it forward so quickly that its sails broke loose from their moorings and flew upward before vanishing into oblivion. Everyone watched in awe as their ship traveled hundreds of miles toward land within mere seconds, eventually slowing down when the creatures released their grip on the broken ropes and disappeared beneath the waves once more.
When Captain Kaikeyi finally regained control of herself after witnessing such a surreal event, she looked at her shipmates who were staring at each other open-mouthed, seeking confirmation about what they just saw. She understood why they might doubt the reality of the situation; after all, it seemed too fantastical to be true. Instead of indulging in further disbelief, the crew focused on the immediate circumstances and began pondering over the repercussions of their newfound position.
Their captivated eyes remained glued to Kaikeyi, who smiled mischievously, fully aware of the bewilderment that enveloped everyone present. It was undeniably a rare occurrence – one that most would never experience in multiple lifetimes. Kaikeyi knew its significance and understood that an unforeseen but crucial chain of events was on the horizon. However, none dared to ask for specifics, fearing what may come next.
With a warm yet commanding tone, Kaikeyi addressed her speechless crew: "As incredible as it is that we've arrived here, we must not dwell on the past. Let us remember the storm we managed to survive and the miraculous assistance we received from those mysterious sea creatures. Tomorrow, I will go ashore and discover our location. It's likely that we are hundreds of miles away from Magadha, where I left my family behind, unsure if I would ever see them again. We have endured numerous adventures, and undoubtedly more await us. For tonight, let us rejoice and discuss further plans over dinner in my cabin. Crew members, you are invited to join me in continuing this journey towards glory. Rest well tonight, for tomorrow will bring changes that none can halt unless they desire to lose all hope forever. Goodnight, everyone! See you tomorrow!"
