"What do you mean, 'they all disappeared'?" Emperor Han Xian of the Qin Empire stood up from his throne, anger crossing his face. "I told you to send my best men! Not some random children!"

The General knelt on the floor, head touching the ground. "They were the best, Your Imperial Majesty. But they were too weak, and at least three of them were killed before they could even find them."

"How dare you -" The Emperor started walking towards him, raising his fists in anger.

"Hold it right there!" A voice came from behind him. A man dressed in black and holding a cane entered the room and walked towards the Emperor. He had a round face with a large mustache that covered a little bit of his mouth.

"What is this? Who are you?" The Emperor asked.

"My name is Yang Zhong Hua, but you can call me..." He paused and looked around before whispering in the Emperor's ear: "...Shan Zhong."

Yang Zhong Hua had been one of the most powerful magicians during the Warring States Period and had earned himself the nickname Shan Zhong for his ability to bend reality to his will. The Emperor remembered reading about him as he was growing up - rumors said that he had been responsible for taking down many enemies without even lifting a finger. When he heard that Yang Zhong Hua was still alive and practicing magic again, he immediately sent out an invitation to join his court. After much persuasion, Yang Zhong Hua accepted.

"Is what he says true?" He asked with a sigh. "Tell me everything."

The general explained everything that had happened so far - how five children had escaped from their city and left no trace behind them; how they had defeated several of his best soldiers with ease; how they had miraculously survived in areas where no human should have been able to survive; how they had escaped from his soldiers multiple times despite being outnumbered and outgunned; how two of them were killed by poisonous snakes and another by a huge tree that fell on top of her... The list went on and on until finally, an hour after he started talking, he finished describing what happened when they caught up with them for the last time.

"And that's it," he concluded after describing how two more kids were killed by falling from high cliffs while trying to avoid capture again. "You know what? I don't think we even need magic or sorcery to defeat these brats anymore." He turned around to look at Yang Zhong Hua who was standing quietly by his side with a smile on his face. "Don't you agree?"*

Yang Zhong Hua remained silent for a moment, studying the Emperor's expression. His eyes flickered with excitement as he realized that the Emperor was finally showing a glimpse of vulnerability, a chink in his armored ego. "Your Imperial Majesty," he said in a low, calculated voice. "I believe that these children possess an extraordinary power, one that cannot be defeated with mere brute force or conventional tactics."

The Emperor scoffed, crossing his arms in disbelief. "Extraordinary power, you say? They are just children!"

"Children who have managed to outsmart and outmaneuver your best soldiers, General," Yang Zhong Hua countered calmly. "There is a reason they have eluded capture all this time. I have seen such power before, in individuals who possess a deep connection to the natural forces of this world."

The Emperor narrowed his eyes, considering the words carefully. "What are you suggesting then? That we... bargain with them?"

Yang Zhong Hua shook his head, a sly grin forming on his lips. "No, Your Imperial Majesty. We do not bargain with them. Instead, we enlist their aid. Together, we may uncover the secrets behind their power and turn it to our advantage."

The Emperor's anger subsided, replaced by a flicker of curiosity. "You believe they can be manipulated? That we can harness their power for our own gain?"

"I believe it is worth exploring, Your Imperial Majesty. With my knowledge of magic and their inherent abilities, we have the potential to create an unstoppable force," Yang Zhong Hua explained, his voice dripping with confidence.

The Emperor pondered this proposition, his mind racing with possibilities. He had always sought power, and if these children possessed something truly extraordinary, he could wield it as his own. The young Emperor glanced at the General, who remained silently watching in anticipation.

"Very well," the Emperor finally said, a fire igniting in his eyes. "Bring these children to me alive. We shall study them and unlock the secrets of their power."

The General bowed deeply, relieved to have a new plan of action. "As you command, Your Imperial Majesty."

"And Yang Zhong Hua," the Emperor added, turning his attention to the magician. "If you fail me, your life will be forfeit."

Yang Zhong Hua maintained his composed smile, unfazed by the threat. "Rest assured, Your Imperial Majesty, failure is not a word in my vocabulary."

With the Emperor's orders set, the General quickly mobilized his remaining troops, enhanced by the knowledge that they would no longer rely solely on force to apprehend the elusive children. They would now employ a combination of their military expertise and Yang Zhong Hua's magical prowess to fulfill the Emperor's commands.

Meanwhile, Yang Zhong Hua retreated to his study, the room filled with ancient tomes and scrolls, symbols etched into the walls. As he delved into his research, he became consumed by the mystery of the children's power. He read through spell after spell, seeking ancient rituals and forgotten incantations that could potentially harness their abilities.

Days turned into weeks, and the search for the children spanned across the empire. The General's troops scoured the mountains, forests, and deserts, relentlessly tracking any traces left behind by the elusive group. The Emperor's obsession with capturing and studying the children grew, fueled by his hunger for power.

Finally, a breakthrough came. One of the scouts reported a sighting of the children in a secluded village nestled deep within an ancient forest. The Emperor and Yang Zhong Hua traveled swiftly to the location, accompanied by a select group of soldiers.

As they approached the village, they could feel a subtle shift in the air—a presence that seemed to radiate an otherworldly energy. The villagers, sensing danger, retreated into their homes, leaving the streets eerily silent.

Rounding a corner, the Emperor and Yang Zhong Hua found themselves face-to-face with the children, their eyes shimmering with an inner light. But before anyone could make a move, a young girl with wild, fiery hair stepped forward. Her voice, tinged with a strange power, echoed through the silent village.

"Emperor Han Xian, we are not your enemies," she said, her voice resonating with strength that belied her youthful appearance. "We seek no conflict, only to be left in peace."

The Emperor's gaze shifted from the girl to Yang Zhong Hua, now questioning whether their approach had been misguided. The magician met his gaze with a knowing smile before addressing the girl.

"We come not as enemies, but as seekers of knowledge," Yang Zhong Hua declared, his words enveloped in an air of sincerity. "We wish to understand your power, to learn from it, and perhaps find a way to ensure its harmony with the empire."

The girl regarded them cautiously, gauging the sincerity in their words. And for a moment, the weight of the world seemed to settle upon her young shoulders, burdened with a decision that would shape the fate of both the empire and the children.

She finally nodded, her fiery hair dancing in the wind. "Very well. We shall hear what you have to offer."

And so, within the forgotten depths of that ancient forest, a tenuous alliance began to form. The Emperor, driven by ambition, and the children, bound by a power beyond comprehension, stood at the precipice of a shared destiny. Only time would reveal whether this fragile harmony would crumble under the weight of their conflicting desires or whether it would usher in an era of unimaginable power and unity.
