Harmony's Journey: Cultivating Spirits in a Fractured Realm
·
Published 2/8/2023Two complex and conflicted individuals, Eam and Anord, must battle against chaos and corruption to restore peace to their Lord of the Rings inspired fantasy world, journeying through struggles and obstacles towards a sensuous, potentially life-altering joy that will ultimately require them to collaborate and unravel the secrets of spirit cultivation.
The two were traveling northward, towards the ancient city of Eth.
It was a forlorn road, one that had not seen much traffic in years. The land around them was desolate and empty.
They walked forward slowly, trying to conserve their energy.
This was the third day since they left the village of Bolead. They had traveled a good distance, but at the rate they were going, they would need another three days to reach the city. They needed to find a place to rest and replenish their supplies, or else they would run out of food. Anord suggested that they hunt for some game, but Eam wanted them to save their resources until they reached Eth. She couldn’t shake away her fear that this trip may end in failure, which made her feel hesitant about using up their supplies - even if it meant starving on the way there. Anord agreed with her on that matter, though he hated seeing Eam be so pessimistic about their mission. He knew she would be happier if she ate more; she looked too skinny and tired these days.
Eam stopped walking when she saw something up ahead. It was a large structure of some sort, leaning against the side of a small hill. As she walked closer, she realized that it was an old wooden cabin buried in overgrowth of grass and weeds. She could see a small window on one side of the building and a slightly larger window on the other side; both windows were covered by wood planks instead of glass panes.
“Anord! Look! There’s a house!” Eam called out as she ran towards the cabin. She grabbed onto the rusted handle and pulled with all her strength, but nothing happened. “It won’t open!” Eam screamed in frustration as she ran back to where Anord had been waiting behind her, panting from running so fast without taking a deep breath beforehand. Anord walked over to where Eam stood and inspected the door himself before looking down towards the ground around it. “I think someone has blocked it up with stones...” Anord observed after he picked up a nearby rock and dropped it near the entrance again, listening for any sounds that may indicate whether or not anyone was inside. “Can you lift me up? I want to see if there is anything on top of this thing we can use...” Anord said as he turned toward Eam with his arms raised high above his head. She quickly lifted him up so he could reach one of the small windows on top of the cabin and got down again when he signaled her that everything was okay from what he could see from inside through the cracks between the planks covering its surface. “There’s an old bed up here... maybe we can sleep there tonight? And maybe even eat our food without having to worry about animals taking it?” Anord suggested as he jumped down from the cabin and walked around it to see if there were any other ways in besides through its front door - which looked like it hadn’t been used for years anyway - or through its roof window anymore than what he just did. “Let’s check inside first... I don’t want to take any risks... Who knows what kind of people might have lived here? I don’t want us to wake up dead because we didn’t do enough checks first... We have no idea how long ago this place was abandoned... We can look around when we are safe inside! If this place is safe enough then we will stay here tonight! If not then we keep moving forward until we find somewhere else... What do you think? Does this sound reasonable enough?” Eam asked curiously while looking at Anord who was already poking his head inside through one of the windows to get a better view of what was inside without attracting any unwanted attention from whatever might be lurking inside without them knowing about it yet – like snakes or mice perhaps? “Yes... This sounds reasonable enough indeed! When you say inside though, do you mean into this room or upstairs? You can see quite well from here but I can only see two rooms downstairs plus something underneath those stairs over there! So I don’t know how many rooms there might be upstairs... Do you want me to go and look upstairs too? Or should I just wait for your approval before going anywhere further than this room? What do you think? Should I go upstairs too or not? Do you want me to get down now so you can decide what we are doing next before we lose any more time than necessary? Let me ask again: Do you want me to get off this window now or not? Is it now okay for me to get down or not yet? What is your answer my lady!? Decide already!!” Anord spoke nervously while looking at Eam who seemed lost in thought while staring blankly at him while chewing on her lower lip and playing with her hair absentmindedly with one hand - which made him wonder even more why she didn’t seem hungry enough these days... Was she just nervous about something...? Was she getting sick...? Maybe he should offer her something to eat after all...? Or should he just take care of himself first...? Maybe he should offer her something afterwards...? Maybe he should help her relax first instead...? Maybe it would be better if they took turns hunting for some food later instead...? He couldn't decide what would be best for both of them at once! He couldn't stop thinking about how worried he was about Eam! How bad did things really have to get before he had no choice but to call upon his father's help once more!? Couldn't Father help them figure out how best they could help themselves!? Didn't Father always say that his presence wasn't required unless things got truly bad!? But Father also said that they could always ask him anytime they felt insecure or scared because deep down everyone needed someone besides themselves who could give them hope when things got dark and scary! Father also said that hope is always stronger than fear because hope gave people courage when nothing else could! Did Father lie!? Did Father lie when saying these things!? Did Father lie when saying that Eam's parents died because they tried helping others despite being inexperienced!? Did Father lie when saying these things!? Eam woke up frightened after having such a strange dream about Anord screaming frantically in front of her without stopping anytime soon although she wasn't sure what language he spoke nor why he seemed so afraid in her dream... Perhaps it had been because she fell asleep during their journey without realizing it herself...? The sun had set hours ago after all... And as far as she remembered, there weren't any means left anymore either...? Hadn't they already spent all their supplies earlier today...? Her dreams usually weren't very clear even by themselves... But this dream felt different somehow...? It felt real somehow...? So real in fact that even some parts seemed familiar somehow...? It reminded her strongly of childhood memories... Of happier times... Moments full of joy where nothing else mattered besides getting lost in playtime full of laughter with friends outside under daytime sunsets while laughing happily together while jumping into piles of freshly cut hay and eating apples fresh out of trees nearby while enjoying each other's company until sunset brought them back into reality once more...? Times where everything seemed so simple yet so beautiful at once...? Times where everything seemed so easy yet so hard all at once...? Times where everything seemed so magical yet so ordinary all at once...? Times where life itself seemed perfect yet imperfect all at once...? Where everything had been black-and-white back then but suddenly full-color now after such a long time filled with lonely nights filled with fear and tears crying alone in silence into pillows until exhaustion finally arrived after every night during countless weeks and months filled with endless despair for no reason whatsoever thus making every single second felt like an eternity filled with loneliness surrounded by darkness everywhere except for unknown reasons nobody knew anymore except perhaps herself alone who knew better than anyone already since everyone else only pretended like everything was fine and dandy whenever questions were asked yet everyone else hid away their worries behind smiles hoping no one would notice no matter how hard those smiles were forced sometimes simply because nobody wanted others to worry unnecessarily plus time healed wounds slowly but surely eventually regardless whether
