Forbidden Bonds of Pleasure

I was on my way to the precinct, ready for my first day as a cop. I arrived early and had to wait in line for an hour.

I was getting anxious, but I tried to stay calm. I'd be fine. Probably. That's what I thought, and then I saw him. Sgt. Jacobson was a legend at the precinct, the oldest officer there and the toughest too, everyone said so. He had a reputation for bullying the rookies and making their lives hell until they could prove themselves worthy of his respect, or at least that's what I'd heard from other cops who were veterans back when he first started working there.

It didn't take long for me to understand why he was so feared among the new recruits: as soon as he saw me waiting there with all my gear, ready to be assigned a partner and start my training, he walked up to me and grabbed me by the collar. "Are you him?" he asked in his scratchy voice, looking down at me with his tired eyes. "You must be," he continued after seeing my uniform in place, "the new recruit."

"Yes sir," was all I managed to say before he turned around and began walking away.

"Come with me," he said simply over his shoulder while walking towards the elevator, "you're going to start your training right now."

I followed him as fast as I could, not even sure what it meant that I would be starting my training right away like this. If it wasn't for Sgt. Jacobson shouting impatiently at me when we stopped in front of a door marked 'interrogation room' I probably would have asked myself some questions before just following him inside.

Inside, however, it didn't take long for me to get an idea of what kind of training this would be: sitting on a chair in front of a table was a man dressed in civilian clothes with his hands cuffed behind his back. He looked familiar somehow, but it wasn't until Sgt. Jacobson walked up to him and pushed him roughly against the wall that I recognized him: it was Rick Daley, one of the biggest dealers in town who we had been chasing for weeks without much luck.

"This is your lucky day rookie!" Sgt. Jacobson growled at me as he pulled out a key from his pocket and unlocked Rick's handcuffs; "this scumbag is yours to interrogate until we can make him talk." He looked at Rick again with disgust while giving me one last warning: "don't fuck this up kid or you'll be joining him here next week."

I nodded vigorously while trying not to show how nervous I really was as Sgt. Jacobson got up and started walking towards the door; "if you need any help just call," he said simply before leaving the room; "I'll be waiting outside."

He walked out without another word and closed the interrogation room door behind him; leaving Rick alone with me. It took us both a minute to realize how quiet it became once Sgt. Jacobson left: then we both looked at each other nervously while standing still on opposite sides of the table where Rick had been sitting earlier. What do I do? Should I try and break his confidence? Treat him like shit? Well... yes actually! That's what everyone said you should do! But... how am I supposed to treat someone like shit if they're already tied up on their knees?

"So..." I finally decided to say after a few more seconds of staring blankly at Rick while imagining how nice it would have been if Sgt. Jacobson would have left me some instructions about this particular situation instead of abandoning us alone like that, "...how are you doing today?" There we go! That sounds tough enough!
