Sibling Flame: A Tale of Love, Redemption and Fate
·
Published 3/14/2023Struggling to overcome oppressive forces and a forbidden passion, Odysseus, a nobleman from Italy in the 2nd century, must align himself with his fateful sister, a powerful flamebender of legendary skill, to save themselves from a devastating family rend and a heart wrenching conclusion.
The wind had picked up a little since he left, but Zuko was still able to smell the sea from here. He took a deep breath of the salty air and closed his eyes. Even though the sun was sinking into the horizon, it still warmed him through his clothes.
"You know, this place would be perfect if they hadn’t shut down the spa," Azula said. Her voice seemed so far away.
Zuko opened his eyes and turned to her sitting on the bench next to him. She leaned back in her own seat, her hands clasped behind her head as she looked heavenward. "Yeah, I wonder what happened to that guy," he said after a pause.
They sat together silently for a long time, the only sounds around them being the waves crashing into the rocks below and the occasional bird chirping or insect buzzing. The sun continued its constant slow decent into the ocean until all Zuko could see was blue sky and ocean for miles around him.
"I wonder if Aang is okay," Azula said suddenly.
Zuko didn’t answer right away, still lost in thought. His mind wandered back to when they were kids and how he felt about his sister then. Still sitting with his eyes closed, Zuko thought back to the day they first met Aang and Katara at Ba Sing Se; how he had tried to attack them while they were trying to help him find their mother; how Azula had stopped him before he could attack; how she had saved Aang’s life before even introducing herself to him; how she helped them escape from prison; how she had then helped them fight against their mother and Uncle Iroh; how they had finally joined together as a family after Azula had sacrificed herself for Zuko at Uncle Iroh’s funeral pyre… Zuko sighed and opened his eyes. His sister was no longer sitting next to him on the bench. When did she leave? He wondered absently as he turned around and began walking towards the house where Azula was waiting for him inside. It was getting dark now, but it didn’t bother him anymore because Azula was there waiting for him inside where it was warm…
