"I really don't know what to think of this case, Doe. The victims and the modus operandi are all over the place. I mean, how did this even happen?"

"This case is like a box of chocolates, Lieutenant. You never know what you're gonna get."

Lieutenant Lopez sighed, moving his hands from his face and placing them on his desk. He stared at Detective Doe for a moment, wondering what she was talking about.

"That's not going to make sense to anyone who hasn't seen 'Forrest Gump,' Lieutenant."

"What? Oh, right..." Lieutenant Lopez laughed slightly. "Anyway...it's just weird. So many people of different backgrounds have been killed in the same way yet none of them knew each other at all! This cult thing, it seems hard to believe that they could all be connected in some way."

"Yeah, well..." Detective Doe leaned back into her chair, looking up at the ceiling as she thought of an answer. "The only thing that they seem to have in common is that they were either unemployed or on welfare...and they had some sort of connection to strange practices."

"Like what?"

"Well, we've got a few professors who were researching strange rituals and magic. One was in law enforcement and he was studying occult crimes. We also have a nurse who was working with terminal patients to help ease their pain through meditation and such. There was also a homeless guy who lived in the park downtown who liked practicing strange rituals with tarot cards and stuff like that."

"So...they're all weirdos then?"

"I guess you could say that," Detective Doe shrugged her shoulders. "But...there is one more thing that connects them all together."
